Anyone had an aspiration on an ovarian cyst with the guidance of ultra sound - full or empty bladder?

I am having this procedure done next Monday, I had to go yesterday for a pre assessment and thought I had asked all the questions etc.

Tonight I have thought of another one - I have been told nil by mouth from 9am, fair enough although I am not having a GA, I do understand etc the why's and what fors. The think that is bothering me is the fact that my bladder will be empty as I will have had nothing to drink, but the nurse told me that they will scan me from my stomach - I have been led to believe that they needed a full bladder to see cysts on the ovaries (every time I was scanned I had to have a full bladder)

Does anyone know exactly what they will do?

Thanks in advance

Thanks Lady , I was hoping to not to be a pain and bother them. They do know I am concerned about procedure etc..... was hoping that someone around here had had the procedure done.

Oh well I suppose I will know in a weeks time!

Smile

They can usually see the ovaries by using an abdominal ultrasound but a transvaginal (where they stick the probe into your vagina) gives them better images. A abdominal ultrasound needs a full bladder, a transvaginal doesn't. I'm not sure why you've been told that you need to be nil by mouth if they are doing an abdominal scan with no GA though. Confused I would give the department a call, they will be able to help.
