My dad (78) has swelling in both legs and his head, ulltrasound booked. Any ideas what it can be?

Please. I live in England and he lives in Scotland, so have not actually seen him. Apparently he has been like this for 3 weeks and decided not to tell me for fear of worrying (grr). He is generally fit and well, but can eat and eat and eat and never puts on weight so is quite slim. My mum says he is all ballooned up in the legs and face. The doctor has been out again today as the tablets he gave him to reduce the water retention are not working. He has a low blood count apparently and an ultrasound booked for Thursday.

Anybody any ideas. I am so worried here all by myself. Can't get hold of dh to speak to him.

Hello Fimbo...

Sadly I have no advice at all but just to say that I hope he gets better soon.

Aww thanks Spagettihead for replying. You can of course imagine what is going through our heads. Lots of worry between now and Thursday. Thank you.
