Do I need to see a doctor?

Basically we've all had various colds etc for the last few weeks.
Yesterday I had high fever (in the night 39 with paracetamol and ibuprofen), one tonsil swollen and red. Runny nose, bit of cough. Today the same.

I'm thinking tonsillitis and as I see no white pus I'm guessing viral. Shall I see a doctor or wait a day or two? Seeing doctor difficult today and tomorrow.

This sounds just liek what my ds has atm. It came on very suddenly on friday night and he was so ill we took him to the out of hours doctor on Saturday. Thir opinion was that it was viral and there was nothing they could do. He still has a temperature today, but nowhere near where it was. Keep up with the medicine and make sure you drink enough. Ds didn't eat all weekend, but he has thankfully been drinking. It's been one illness after another for him this winter, it really has seemed relentless. And with each one he gets a little bit skinnier and doesn't seem to have time to recover before the next bout :(

Yes, this winter it's been horrendous, one illness after another.

Right, will stay in bed and hopefully it will get better soon.

Not sure what the dr will do? Just keep drugging yourself and have lots of fluids and whatever you can manage to eat.

My mother has been nagging at me to go and see a doctor. She listed all the horrible complications of untreated tonsilitis Hmm so I thought I would ask here.

if it's viral then not much more you can do

if it's bacterial then the thinking is that it takes a couple of days for antibiotics to kick in, by which time you should be over the worst of it anyway

I would give it another day or so and if no better then go see Dr

Tonsilitis is horrible

CuriousMama · 29/02/2012 20:59

How are you winnybella? Hope you're on the mend?

winnybella · 01/03/2012 23:25

Thanks for asking. I woke up again with fever yesterday so decided to go and see a doctor and it's bacterial tonsillitis after all. My mother was right Grin I'm on ABs for 7 days. Feeling a bit better now, but far from well. I've never been able to see my nodes/tonsils on the outside of my neck. They're fucking huge Shock

Oh, and the bonus of it all is that I have no appetite at all and have lost 3 lbs since Monday Grin
