Is cough medicine a load of old crap?

I have the virus from hell.

Hot/cold achey, sickness etc. The worst bit is the horrible chesty cough which sounds like a sealion.

Does anyone find any cough medicine actually helps?

Yes thanks chipmunk. Taken the first one and wondering when/if the exploding bowels will start.

Ok, if its a productive cough (your bringing stuff up even if you cant spit it out) then dont use cough medicine.

If its an irritating dry cough that isnt making any mucas then Pholocodiene works a treat for suppressing it.

If you suppress a productive cough then all the mucky infected stuff stays in your lungs and you get a chest infection.

For helping to bring extra mucky stuff up use a steam inhalationg with friars balsam. Wash the container out with boiling water with washing up liquid after use cos it stains like you would not believe.

We were told at uni cough medicines are useless, coughs are like inflammation, they cause their own problems sometimes but are there for healing.

My throat feels like it's been sandpapered, dh came to my rescue last night with whisky-it was just the thing, numbed it up good.

No good if you're going to work though.
