Does anyone else get really fucking bad PMT? What the hell can I do about it?

I'm TTC (long term, fertility issues) so I can't take anything that would affect this.

But honestly this is awful.

I feel awful - really sore boobs, sooo physically tired (heavy achy limbs), crying for absolutely no reason, murderous, making a tit of myself in public.

Every month for about 5 days I become a different person.

Surely this can not be right Angry

I think menopause would be a blessed relief TBH, but I'm a long way of that ATM.

What can I do?

Yep been there, got the t-shirt. Go to your GP, I had loads of tests and prodding as I had pain throughout the month but nothing was found so eventually my GP recommended the coil. I didn't like the sound of it and didnt need the 'protection' but after months of misery I went for it. It wasnt pleasant but the symptoms vanished within days, and the 'monthly' is barely there. See your GP, and good luck!

The herb Agnus Castus, GLA (Evening primrose, Borage oil). It may however take up to 3 months to see a change.

Cut out all refined/processed foods, sugars and salt, caffeine and sorrry...alcohol.

Eat lots of fruit and veg, lean meat and fish, whole grains, beans and pulses.

Should also help with fertility issues.

Worth a try for a couple of months anyway???

I have always suffered with painful periods so I completely sympathise. I tried all sorts of heavy duty painkillers without any success.

The only thing I did which helped was having acupuncture. It regulated my periods, helped with pain and the sickness and bloating. It is also a really brilliant therapy for boosting fertility too.

Might be worth a try but it isn't a quick fix. Good luck!

Thanks for your replies.

Mindy I'm afraid the coil is out as I'm TTC (trying to get pregnant in plain speak!)

almond I'm also pretty sure you can't take evening primrose when TTC as I've already considered this, but I've not heard of agnus Castus so will look into this thanks :)

I'm on a diet so already trying to eat very healthily, and am not drinking much at all due to, yep you've guessed it, TTC . I basically have no vices left in the world :(

My periods aren't actually very painful or heavy, in fact it's often a relief when it arrives as the pre-menstrual stuff is so much worse but it all disappears as soon as period makes a show.

I should also add the fertility problems aren't mine, but DHs.

You could try vitamin b complex in liquid form ((sublingual) from holland and barrett. It is absorbed directly in the mouth. I have been taking it for about a month and cannot believe the difference in my moods, brilliant! This is not for PMT though btw. I used to suffer from the vicious form of pmt years ago and tried every manner of things. The best thing I found was cutting back on tea, apparently the tannins block absorption of vitamins and minerals. Had I known about b complex above, would have tried it like a shot.

I haven't suffered from it since having 2 dcs but I am on ad's Atm, I do wonder what would happen if I came of them.

Good luck, I know the agony of pmt! I hope you find what works for you

I went to see a consultant a few years ago as mine was so bad. He suggested the Pill. I don't get on with hormonal contraception and have been advised not to take the Pill due to a strong family history of breast cancer.

He then suggested B vits and evening primrose oil. I came away thinking "that was a waste of time". A couple of months later I started taking Eye-Q tablets. My PMT improved hugely. I noticed one day that they contain evening primrose oil. So I guess he was right. Unfortunately, you are not supposed to take EPO after ovulation if you are ttc. You can try the B vitamins though.

VoodooKitten · 25/02/2012 14:34

Thanks, I will definitely get myself down to H&B and look into B vits.

i watched a program called the food hospital a while ago, a lady had severe PMt, they advised her to try high dose VIt D3 and calcium. it worked for her.

i also take Vit d3 and magnesium ok.
i tried epo but it repeats on me all day so i stopped.

i have had some relief with the pain, boobs still hurt loads.
my gp prescribed methanemic acid for the period pains.
i wish there was a magic cure..
it really gets me down sometimes.
