I have been trawling through threads trying to find information or advice on what I am experiencing but thought I may as well just ask! Ok.... for the last 3-4 months I have been feeling extreme tiredness but I thought it was just working and looking after two young children (22 months apart). Anyway it got to the stage where I was concerned about my ability at work due to my concentration levels! Went to my GP and she was great and really listened, questioned a lot whether I was depressed. I do feel unhappy and down but think this is due to tiredness and not doing the things I enjoy.

Anyway... she took loads of bloods and it showed my iron serum levels or ferritin levels were 3, HB 12 and WBC were slightly low. Had a long discussion why my iron stored are so low. Periods not that heavy etc and have a very good diet. I have been on iron tablets 3 times a day and can tolerate them thank goodness! I still feel absolutely wiped out. GP has put on my sick note post viral fatigue as I did have nasty cold/flu before christmas and haven't been right since. I have been reading threads about this and don't have as bad symptoms. I find it really bad getting out the bath (dizzy, tearful) at the end of the day my legs/body just wants to lie down.

I have no emotions apart from feeling tired and sorry for myself. I am waiting for the coeliac test results. I have got another 2 weeks off work. I did begin to feel slightly perkier few days ago but have another cold (but feels so much worse due to tiredness). I want to go back to work but they are unhappy about me only doing basic shifts! Normal ones are 13 hours long, nights and oncalls. My doctor said she can sign something about amended duties which may help.

So....my question is (after all this moaning) is those of you who have experience in this, how long will it take for me to feel better if it is just due to low iron? I just want to get out doing what I normally do, I have tried but my body wants to flop!!! I love gardening and running and normally do pilates but can't do any of these. Advise please! I have lovely friends and family who are helping with kids etc but I find I even bore myself with this!!!! Sorry again so long

Have you had your thyroid checked?

It could be (post partum) hypothyroidism. This can also lower your immune system, so could explain why you are being hit hard with bugs.

Also check your vitamin D levels.

Hi I have 2 children 13.5 months apart. They are now 3 and 2, with summer birthdays,

Hmmm all I can say is I have been to my doctor due to extreme tiredness, felt dizzy in lifts (still do sometimes), very low immune system, my body felt so tired, I felt as if I could feel my organs feeling achy at night.

Had the tests done, nothing is obviously wrong with me.

I am eating regularly and better. I don't drink alot. I try to stay healthy and my energy levels are slowly picking up.

It might actually just be extreme tiredness.

Keep focusing on your overall health, get as much sleep as you can, eat well, look after yourself. Hopefully this will pass.
