Poor old DD has a dark red eye!

Please tell me that this is just a burst blood vessel and she won't end up in Alder Hey again! DS attacked her and scratched her eyeball she cried a little blood for a few minutes, and now the whole lower half of her eyeball is dark red and her eye's puffy... she also has some gunk coming out now... her iris and pupil seem unaffected though... I've got an 'emergency' (ha!) appt at GPs for 3.20.... they won't send her to hospital will they? (She's nearly 4 months)

update?

Levanna · 26/01/2006 17:59

how is she now, Fastasleep? I don't know anything about eye injuries so can't offer advice but I hope she recovers soon.

How old is your DS? It's awful when something like this happens, isn't it! When DD2 was much younger (she's now a year old) DD1 (2+ at the time) bit her extremely hard on the ear. Worst thing was, it was the first and only time she has ever bitten!

mummytosteven · 26/01/2006 18:02

Her DS is just under 2 Levanna.

Levanna · 26/01/2006 18:04

Aww, only young. I wonder if she has had to go to a+e? Fingers crossed all's well.

Sounds like eye is infected, which can serious in the under two's. Depending on how swollen it is they may give antibugs and drops, (good luck with those...) They should't take any chances with a wee ones sight

fastasleep · 26/01/2006 21:35

Update:
For scratch... read DS punched her in face and gave her a black eye, some swelling around socket, went down the next day. Usual bleed from socket into lower white of eye (see many tens of thousands of drunken punch ups in this country for details)
Diagnosis from Doc: let it be and eye drop antibiotics to counter possible future infection.
Can't wait till she's big enough to get her own back....

Does DW know you've borrowed her login to update. I never knew you usually got a bleed with a black eye (the one and only time I ever got a black eye I didn't get any bleed) - I was knocked down by a bus, not a drunken punchup! Anyway glad that DD is now sorted, and without a further trip to Alder Hey!

Levanna · 26/01/2006 22:55

Phew, so glad to hear it's pretty much 'superficial'

WRT getting her own back, don't worry! If mine are anything to go by, it's amazing how tough the littlest can get and how quickly.

(Says she, after a day spent unpinning 3 year old from under 1 year old who can more than hold her own!)

lol FAS. How is your DD today?

fastasleep · 27/01/2006 21:17

She's good thanks no obvious eye infection... she's a bit grouchy but I think that's because DH has gone out! She sat happily in her sling all day bumbling away and grinning it's still quite dark red but the patch seems to be shrinking.

Thanks for asking!

did you see DH's other post last night?

Levanna · 28/01/2006 00:45
