My dd who is 9 was really ill all december we were told over and over it was a virus but she had a really bad water infection!
So today we went to hospital for an ultrasound to be sure there was no permanant damage.Although we wont oficially know for a couple of weeks the lady who did the scan said all looked fine to her which has reassured me a lot.
I just wanted to post this here as I am sure I read about other children who were waiting for scans too.

My DD had to go for a kidney scan due to UTI. She waited 3 months for the scan and was given the all clear at the end of the scan. We never heard any more from the Dr and that was in January 2005.

Hope your DD gets the all clear too, I'm sure they wouldn't have said anything today if they weren't sure her kidneys were fine.

Dd had to get two scans when she had a UTI. She was only 12months at the time. We never got the results from eith scan, one was an ultrasound the other involved an iodine injection, until we had an appointment with the consultant at the hospital a couple of months later but in the mean time they had her on long term antibiotics.

In the end she was fine but has since had another uti, nowhere near as bad as the last time and if it happens again its back for more tests.

joanna, I am sure if all looked fine to the lady who did the scan, then you should take a lot of reassurance from that.

fwiw my dd had wee infections from the day she was born and had ultrasound to check what was going on. The result of that was bad so she went for another test which I think was called radio isotope. Anyway the upshot of all these tests were that the kidney function was impaired and repeated infections had caused scar tissue to form resulting in her having her kidney removed.

So, please be comfirted that all seems ok at this stage. They would see a problem if there was one, I'm sure.

Is she on long term preventative antibiotics at all?

No she had several lots of antibiotics till we hit right one for her kidneys as I belive can be the case. She finished them but by then she had 5 lots and got hives -head to foot in a rash on xmas eve!Even then the doc said oh its a virus and we hadnt left the house in a week!
She has had no more anti biotic since.
