Please can someone help...i have been hyperthyroid for 10 years with Graves disease, had RAI last Aug as it was very bad..now i am hypo badly. My last two tsh results are 95 the reference range states no higher than 5, my t4 is normal. I am very cold, goosebumpy all day, and so so tired that i end up going to bed about 6pm. I used to be very active doing marathons lol now i just cant function. Was put on Thyroxine tabs 4 wks ago which reduced it a bit (was taking one 50g in morning), now doc says to try two 50mg but i dont think this is enough to help.

When I had my levels checked for the first time in 2007, my TSH level was 117. My GP thought it was a mistake, and the second test came up as 123! I was originally given 50mcg daily, tested again 4 weeks later, and eventually my dosage was upped to 125mcg, which kept my TSH in the right range. It can take time to find the right dosage, but you will get there.

I know how rough you must be feeling, but once the dosage is sorted you will feel a lot better.

Hi Sorelip, Thanks for your message. It helps knowing that i wont always feel this bad. BUT god doesnt it take such a long time. It took them a year to realise something had to be done with my HyperT, as i had every sympton and it was getting a bit dangerous. Now its been RAI'd i have every sympton with HypoT. I honestly have never been this tired, i do try fight it though. I still try get on my treadmill a couple of times a wk but then i am finished for days after. Last week i was busy at work and this wk i am very quiet but i am struggling more. My eyes are so blood shot by early afternoon, i wear so many coats i am laughed at ...i sleep with my heated blanket on all night! I just want to take more Levothryoxine as i just dont think 2 x50mg is enough..i hate the waiting for weeks to see any changes. I have only been on Thyroxine for about 6 wks, and only just upped the dose this monday. I really hope that its back to normal as i cant bear this, i struggle daily to even get up. I have my referral letter to see the Endocrinologist again come through the door today...end of March!

Oh hell, you can't be left feeling like this until end of March, no sodding way! Can you contact your GP and say that you really aren't feeling any improvement, and can you up the dose? You don't have anything to lose by asking, and meanwhile it is seriously affecting your life.

Good advice from sorelip. It does take time.

Usual procedure would be to test and tweak every six weeks, so start at 50, go up to 100, give it 4/6 weeks and go back to your GP.

By the time your appointment comes along, you should be ready for another test.

Normal dose, according to us research, is 1 mcg for every lb of body weight.
