Cleaning Boys

I have a DS who is 17 months old. At hospital I asked them to show me how to clean his bits and they said just wipe over them and thats it. Thats what I have been doing but while chatting with a friend she said that her DH was taken to the doctors as a young child and the doctor said his that as his mum had not regularly pulled the skin on his willy back that it was too tight, so the doctor cut it with a scalpel! Her DH remembers it to this day and it horrified me. Can any other mums of boys give me any advice on how I should be cleaning him?

AAAAARGGGGGH!

That is very probably an embellished tale and not what healthcare professionals and mothers of small boys advise these days.

DO NOT every pull the foreskin back on little boy's willy. Yow!
Daily bathing and keeping a careful eye on his bits is all you need to do.

Thanks suzywong, thats exactly what I have been doing but this horrible tale made me question it.

oh Lorks! I really don't want to see any helmets in the bath. That means I've got another 12 months to keep bath time "nice"

I've got all this to come in a few years then.

Just for interest - my ds (age 9)is under a consultant because his foreskin is too tight. The doc advised a gentle 'play' at stretching the foreskin in the bath each night (ds himself doing it not me!). When doc last examined ds he forced the foreskin down very hard to see if it would ever stretch far enough (agony for poor ds). I agree with you - if your boy does it himself fine, but parents should not try to force anything anywhere. Just a good wash and perhaps a gentle fiddle in the bath by boy himself is what nature intended!

mine will have no problems then as DS is ALWAYS fiddling with it
