Booked an appt to have a mole looked at....

Well I say mole I am assuming it started as a mole/freckle but after having ds 5 months ago I have realised this larger than normal thing is on my head.

So what should I expect from my gp? I must admit I don't gave much faith in him. It does fit all the signs from tge NHS website but could still be nothing to worry about. Any advice?

I had a mole on my neck that became itchy and bled a little, it also became irregular.

Went to the Gp who had a look, measured it and asked lots of questions about it. He said it looked suspicious so referred me have it biopsied.

The biopsy didn't really hurt - had some local anesthetic, and it was punched out with a little tool, had 3 stitches.

Came back clear thank God.

first, accept that moles can grow at any time of your life. And you are doing the right thing by having it looked at.

Second, have you done your ABCDE check...

Asymmetry?
Irregular Border
Irregular Colour/patchy colour
Diameter bigger than the end of a pencil?
Elevation - is it a sticky out mole.

Do not panic, because if your GP thinks its something, he/she will refer you to a dermatologist, who will take the mole straight off if he/she thinks is even slightly suspicious.

I had a small mole on the back of my knee that just didnt look quite right. It was a regular brown mole, but it had a black spot in the centre....I was seen within 2 weeks by dermatologist, she removed it a week later, and two weeks after that, she confirmed that it was the very earliest stages of a melanoma - a pre-melanoma - and cut a bigger border around the edge of the scar.

WHile I was there, she also did a full mole check over my whole body. So if you get reffered, wear your best undies! :D

Thanks for replying am trying to not think about it. I did the ABCDE check to tell myself I was being silly but yes to all, so I booked an appt straight away. I am a very freckly/moley person but this is the first one I have ever been concerned about. It does appear to have sprouted out of nowhere whilst o have been busy having a baby.
