Worried about DS2 - tummy bug I think ...

He was cranky on Sunday afternoon and was sick 3 times after bedtime. Yesterday he wasn't himself during the day, obviously off-form, nibbled at food and drank. Dinner-time had a few rice krispies and within 5 mins was sick again. Then last night he was sick a further 4 times. Today he's in wicked form - has spent the morning on my knee but insisted on bread and butter for breakfast - with water. Then had some raisins and 6oz of half milk/half water (I know, no milk but he really wanted it). No more sickness but in much worse form than yesterday. He's gone to sleep now - about 2 hrs earlier than his usual nap-time and I'll just let him sleep on as long as he wants.

Now, after all that ... does it sound like a tummy bug and what should I be letting him eat? Was going to give him (if he wants it) some toast after his nap and then at dinnertime some homemade veggie soup - only if he wants it. And as much water as he'll drink.

Thanks!

Does sound like a tummy bug. I would let him eat small amounts if he's hungry but things to stay away from include milk (I know it's hard when they want it!) & other dairy - ie butter, raisins!, all fruit except apples or bananas, and go easy on the veggies. Things that are good if they've had a tummy bug include dry toast or toast with jam, rice, pasta, dry cereal, apples & bananas, juice but especially apple, chicken. Not sure what else. Also, if he's got a temp try to stick to paracetamol rather than ibuprofen as that can upset tummies too.

Oh, and as for soups, clear broths like chicken soup are much better than vegetable soup - even homemade. Sorry!

Thanks Sugarmag - discovered Waterfalls' thread after I'd posted this and got lots of tips from there too. We had one of those emergency trips to the Dr before lunch cos he woke from his nap really upset and with a big blotchy rash all over his legs. She gave him a really good examination and reckons bug too - lots to drink and let him eat whatever he wants bar dairy. In retrospect I think the rash may have been caused by a new washing powder - although I didn't remember that at the time - typical! He's come round a bit since lunchtime but is still pretty grumpy!!

Had to collect DD from school yesterday - she was 25th pupil sent home that morning! DS succumbed last night as well.

There is something very nasty sweeping all our local schools.

Here's to a quick recovery!

Yikes Milliways - what a lot of ill children in one morning! Hope they're both feeling better soon.
