I have felt rubbish for a couple of days with a horrible sore throat, have been taking co-drydamol and ibuprofen to try and keep the pain at bay, even with these it is only just bareable to swallow. My glands are up and I feel very weird in the general throat area, like my whole face is padded out with wool, my ear started really aching today and I feel generally itchy all over and tired, however I am exhausted from work and sleepless nights anyway - we are due to go away on Sat for a week, I have to do the driving to wales and I would like to see the doc beforehand if there is any point in going or if it is likely to be something that won't get better on it's own - BUT DD has Chicken Pox so confined to the house, my symptoms started as hers did 48hrs ago - I have had shingles before as a child and I think a few years later - just wondering if anyone has had anything similar when their child had the pox - could my body be trying to fight off the virus? I know people can get it twice..

I don't want to waste the GP's time, certainly not if I have to take her (which I would, DH not home early enough to look after her) but I feel totally rotten..It is worrying me that even with the co-drydamol, which I use for a bad back, isn't touching it.

Sounds nasty.

I would be inclined to phone the Drs surgery and ask for a telephone appointment. They can then decide if they want to see you. I would call 1st thing tomorrow incase they can see you before the end of the week.

From what you describe - it sounds very similar to a nasty strep c throat infection I had 10 years ago that was horrendous. I had a reaction to it and ended up on steroids as well as anti-biotics.

You say you are itching - do you have hives or wheals? I started to get raised bits of skin when I rubbed/scratched my itching.

Perhaps try gargling with luke warm salt water - that will help with some bacteria in the back of your throat/mouth.

Go to gp; yours sounds like tonsillitis, which can be awful, but the go should be able to give you something.

Thanks, will give that a go - you're right, should phone them - but I suppose they need to see what is actually going on in there? Everything just seems to be put down to a virus recently, I have been ill every three weeks or so, everything DD gets I get worse it seems. I don't have hives, just feel itchy , especially around my neck. I think from the last time they called me for my back when I couldn't leave the house, it was at the end of the day, but then I suppose I could hopefully get in there tomorrow.
I will see how I feel after a sleep (hopefully!) and a gargle...I really should go to bed, not helping myself!

Would I be able to see anything if it were tonsillitis? aren't there usually white spots or something? DD had it a while back, think I would have got it then, certainly don't think I have ever had it.

My ears itch, it is infuriating!

I definately think you should go to the dr's. In the mean time go to the chemist and ask for hydrogen peroxide, dilute it as directeded and gargle with it every couple of hours.

I felt like this last year. Spent a couple of days feeling annoyed I had such a bad dose of 'flu' as I had had the flu jab. Painkillers were barely working. Eventually went to doctor who almost yelped when he looked at my throat - I had bad case of tonsilitis!! Antibiotics were necessary and within 2 days I was feeling much much better.

Get thee to the doctor!!!!

Thanks I feel better today after some sleep, not much though as DD up early - I had a look at my throat and cant see anything at all, my ear and side of neck still hurt though, but not as bad. Going to see what it is like once my painkillers wear off, if still hurting lots will call them - cant go out anywhere unfortunately - DD is covered in spots now!

You should go to rule out strep. Try to get to an out of hours doctor if you can get someone to take care of your DD in the evening. Strep can have side effects and can really knock you out even without them.

OK! will call tomorrow, you have convinced me, DH home afternoon so should be able to make it.

Currently wine and ibuprofen and ice cream helping...
