DS overdosed on paracetemol - it's been the most frightening day of my life

I am a crap mum - I left a bottle of Calpol equivalent in reach of DS2.

He drank approx. 75ml - it was incredibly frightening - the Poison Control Centre was involved and there was talk of irreversible liver damage.

He has been in hospital all day - at last the final blood tests came back to give him a clear liver function so we were allowed to bring him home. He has had an IV "antidote", they induced vomiting and gave him charcoal orally.

What a crap mum I am

I'm so glad your DS seems OK. How frightening! But you're not a crap mum - everyone leaves things out sometimes.

I remember looking out of my bedroom window to see DS2 (then 20 months) had used some plant pots to climb up onto our balcony wall with a 15 foot drop to concrete below. By the time I walked quickly but quietly outside he had thankfully got down.

you arent a crap mom at all!!!
it was a mistake, it happened, it was all okay in the end, and its a lesson learned!

(i drank a bottle of dimatap (US childs pain med) when i was 4 or 5. i was made to vomit. repeatedly.)

hope your ds is all better now!!! and you too!!!!!

My mil left a boiling kettle in reach of dh when he was a toddler - ended up spending weeks in hospital with scalds.

She still gets upset about it now.

Accidents happen - thank God all's well in the end.

You poor poor mummy, you must have felt terrible. EVERYBODY does something like this at some point, anyone who says they haven't is fibbing. I shut ds1 in the buggy when he was 2 weeks old and nearly broke his back - I was tired and confused and just forgot he was in there.

Be kind to yourself, you've had an awful shock.
