sinus/tooth pain ( again ! ) but gold crown so how would xray work ?

Sorry ,being a bore I know but ...as the pain that the dentist assures me is sinus related continues and currently seems centred on one gold crowned ( inlay ? ) tooth I'm back to thinking it's the tooth !

The dentist didn't xray and I've started wondering about how it's possible to tell with a gold crown by xray what's going on underneath ?

Would the gold block the xray ?

Can anyone shed light for me ?

Usually you can see anything you need to see on the actual bit of tooth that's visible (we call the crown) just tine without taking a radiograph. Radiographs are best for looking at the roots, adjacent structures such as cheek bone/sinus and the bone. Whether the bone is reduced from gum disease or it has been affected by chronic infection in the root canal system of your tooth.

Why dont you ask your dentist next time? I'm sure she would give you a very informative answer with pictures if she's got them.

I'm guessing that if it were just my sinuses my gum wouldn't feel sore and my cheek be swollen ?
Major pain 2 days after finishing week of antibiotics .
Back to GP tomorrow and dentist on Friday ,but suppose I need to prepare myself for something being wrong with a tooth after all .
Pain peaked yesterday ,swollen cheek with pain ( significantly less than yesterday ) mainly on cheek bone area at moment .
Could infected sinuses have somehow spread to a tooth ?
