i know that's what they do for toes, not sure about fingers though. i would have thought a finger may need splinting.

mumofjust1 · 04/02/2012 15:16

I know they strap toes together, but a finger would need a splint.

If you really think it's broken I would pop to A&E

Reenypip · 04/02/2012 15:19

They normally strap broken fingers together, and if it a brokenthumb they use a splint

Catsdontcare · 04/02/2012 15:22

Depends on where a outs the finger is broken. Dh left his and ended up in a right mess. Had to have it re broken and reset. I woul go get it checked.

TopazMortmain · 04/02/2012 15:24

Would get it checked in case it sets wonky

Catsdontcare · 04/02/2012 15:25

Just seen your other thread what a crap day you are having. Also I would go to a and e now because if the snow comes where you are they are going to be over run with broken bones and you'll be there for ever. Funnily enough it was snowing when dh broke his and the nurse said it was chaos!

ditavonteesed · 04/02/2012 15:26

it is the middle bone on peter pointer Blush iyswim, cant touch it without agony, but can bend it, cant pick anything up. really not sure if broken or not bt dont fancy veturing t a&e in the snow, have strapped it up to the next finger with lads of cotton wool in teh middlle. will see how ot is tommorow.

Yup, unless there is damage to the tendon in which case your finger would be splinted and monitored carefully to make sure u didn't develop a trigger finger??Smile

McQueasy · 04/02/2012 15:29

The not being able to bend is not a good sign, 24 hours won't make too much of a difference so u could sleep on it and see how it is tomorrow. Don't leave it too long like that Smile

ditavonteesed · 04/02/2012 15:36

ok just unstrapped it for another look, a little bit swolen, can bend it but if I try to move it away from teh other finger I have shooting pains in my wrist. thhink it is probably srained nt broken.

It depends how badly you have broken it, Dita, and whether or not the fracture is displaced. Dh broke his finger once, and strapped it to a piece of lego before going up to the hospital, but he'd broken it badly and needed three operations to pin and plate it (including one because he'd got a screw loose a screw had come loose), and a year of physio.

I think he made it worse by moving it around - he said, 'I know it's broken because I can do this with it' - whilst wiggling it in an anatomically impossible fashion.

ditavonteesed · 04/02/2012 16:15

it is definatly not that ad and ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww. definatly dont think a&e an option (although best mate does have snow tires and loves a drama). I would feel like such a pain whenit turns out i have slightly bruised it or soemthing, which is probably the case Blush does bloody hurt though. think maybe vodka will helpGrin

Get it x-rayed - not necessarily today: early morning is often a good time to attend A+E if that is feasible for you.

If it is the indexfinger on your dominant hand and it is broken and has rotated, it can cause longterm problems with using that hand normally. I would not risk it.

Snow?? Really? Where are you?

Maiavan · 04/02/2012 16:34

I dont know about fingers but DS just dislocated and broke his toe and they popped it back in then put a metal cap thing over it and then strapped two toes together. I would get it checked.
