mastitis - but no longer breastfeeding

My DS is now 8 and I last breastfed when he was about a year old.
But in the last 12 months I have had mastitis 3 times (the 2nd time was particulalry horrid)
In between 2nd and 3rd time (2 days into the 3rd time now) I was seen ny consultant who said that I'd probably get mastitis again and there were 2 choices
a. if you can, cope with it with antibiotics and pain relief
b. if the frequnecy is too much and it is impacting on your life have an operation to remove breast ducts
I am not planning any more children so the removal of the ducts is not a biggie
But has anyone been through this and chosen surgery and can give me some words of advice?
TIA

I had to have ducts removed as had a mass in one, and bleeding from others. It was not too scary an op, they cut along the curve of the bottom of the nipple. I do have nerve damage to the nipple (no real senstaion on that side) and scarring though. However if I had continued bouts of mastitis I would seriously consider duct removal.

thanks sparklerainbow
I had never heard of duct removal and it sounds a bit....gory?
when I asked around no-one else had heard of it either
but I cannot put up with feeling below par a lot and having a throbbing boob for weeks at a time
thanks for taking the time to reply - you have reassured me

I would ask to be referred to the breast clinic and discuss it with a surgeon, you don't have to go ahead with it, but at least that way you get all the info and get to discuss how much they will remove and how.
