Very worried about dd (8) - dizziness and vomiting - what could this be?

For the last few weeks she has been getting sick and dizzy - at first it was a few times a week, now it is every day, sometimes more than once.

Tomorrow she is having a blood test but I feel really worried about what could be the cause :(

The spells last about 5 minutes and then disappear.

I used to get cyclical vomiting as a child. Some children also develop migraines and this is expressed as dizziness and nausea or vomiting.

She may have something wrong with her inner ear and it is the dizziness which causes the vomiting - does she get it more when she moves her head or stands up?

Thanks for your reply - I am not sure, the GP looked in her ear but couldn't see anything. I keep panicking and thinking maybe she has a brain tumour - I know I shouldn't think the worst :(

Hi Perception
Sounds like you are getting it looked in to sensibly, seeing the GP and having the blood etc.
When are you seeing the GP again?
The symptoms could be due to different things, but certainly they should not be ignored and if its not getting better she'll need further tests etc.
You didn't say how long it is since she last saw the GP - I'd certainly make sure the GP knows how she is and that its ongoing etc. If you haven't seen them very recently might be worth phoning to speak to them and discuss what the plan is once the results are back etc.

She is having the blood test today but when we go in I'm going to ask if the GP dealing with the case can be informed that the episodes are becoming more frequent.

Oh, I first took her to the GP just over a week ago. He said we would see him again when the blood results were back. They were going to do the test next week and I asked for it to be brought forward because she's getting more spells of this. I worry about her safety at school or at swimming and the fact that we don't know what is causing it or whether she might potentially faint.

" when we go in I'm going to ask if the GP dealing with the case can be informed that the episodes are becoming more frequent"

Good idea, but I'd cut out the middle man and ask to speak to the GP on the phone to update them!

Unfortunately, we're not allowed to speak to the GPs on the phone for some reason, everything has to be via reception. But the blood results should be back by Friday and we have another appointment then to review. In the meantime I'll keep her out of swimming.
