Does anyone else find their immune system is shot when they have PMS/their period?

Dp is saying I need to go to the doctors as I catch any cold/virus/bug doing the rounds either just before or during my period. It seems like I'm always coming down with something or getting over something and he is understandably frustrated with me having about one decent, healthy week a month.

Anyone else have this? Is there a reason for it and how can I stop it?

Cold cores and pimples. And a foul temper (more than usual). Only recently though. I assumed it was old age!

have you tried taking anything to boost your immune system wah? I take vit c and fish oil every day and am still hit for six.

I feel the same, a bit fluey as if I'm about to go down with something, or I'll get a cold sore.
I think it's pretty common..guess it's something to do with shift in hormone levels etc and your body has more 'work' to do at that point in the menstrual cycle

And they have got a lot heavier as I get older. Bugger. Happy period my arse.

I thought everyone was like that!! You're normal. Smile

Oestrogen and progesterone are steroid hormones OP so they suppress the immune system a bit. I think this is pretty common but only matters if you are not firing on all cylinders. Instead of getting cross, tell your DP he needs to let you get more sleep and cook you some nourishing food!

No one has ever accused me of that! That's the problem of having no really close girl friends, mother or sisters who discuss this type of thing!

I used to be the same. It is normal. Before your period, your body's immune system drops so it doesn't reject an embryo as a foreign body if one appears. Annoying as it is, it means everything is working as it should.

Unfortuantely, I now appear to have an overactive immune system that is probably rejecting embryos and that is why I can't get pregnant!

thanks for the explanation Eurochick!
(Fingers crossed you have some good news on the pregnancy front soon:) )
