Male relative suddenly found himself being investigated for bone marrow cancer after a routine blood test found a certain protein in his blood. Has since has a MRI, full bone x rays and bone marrow test. He received good feedback on the bone x rays (via letter I think) but heard nothing on the other tests yet. He has a return appt with the consultant in a couple of weeks.

He tells me that the consultant said he would give him the results 'as soon as' but has heard nothing of the other test results. He did chase up the MRI scan result but was told that the results weren't yet with the doctor.

My thinking is that they would have let him know if the results ruled out cancer? Or is it normal that the consultant would wait until everything was back to make a full assessment, rather than deal with each test one by one?

It's a very scary time.

I would tend to think that if there was definitely cancer then they'd speak immediately.
So probably the first few tests have ruled it out, but there are still some to go, possibly ones with rarer forms, possibly just ones that take longer to investigate.

Thanks. The waiting is awful.
