is tonsilitus contagious?

one of dd1 friends wants her to come over to play, her dad currently has tonsilitus, is it contagious?

someone else posted that this evening! mixture of answers i'm afraid....

dd1 gets it every year anyway, but am thinking of if peter gets it.

misdee, I have it and was told by nurse today that I am infectious and it's spread by droplets like a cold so I oughtn't kiss the children. Though they v likely will get it anyway.
