DH hasnt been great in the old praise department, so im here looknig for well dones from a bunch of strangers!!!

munz - the book was Allen Carr's one aimed at women. I read his others, but this was the one that did it for me. Sent it to JARM for her to try and its worked again!

AggiePanther · 18/01/2006 13:27

Just wait ..you'll soon be able to smell a smoker at 20 paces

tangerinecath · 18/01/2006 13:42

Well done JARM, keep up the good work

I gave up 6 years ago and now I can smell smoke on me (& dd too ) when I've been round to my mate's house (she smokes, obviously!) even though she will not smoke in front of dd and goes outside for a fag when we are there. Yuck!

AggiePanther · 18/01/2006 13:46

I could smell smoke on some of my christmas presents ..oh and if a letter has come from a smoker you can tell by the smell..and to think I used to smell like that ..yuck

Sadeyedladyofthelowlands · 18/01/2006 16:36

Woo-hoo!!! Can u get my dh to do the same?

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 18/01/2006 18:08

You lot really know how to make me feel so good - i am now almost 48 hours in and it has been so easy!!!

Been around a smoker today too and it smelt awful - cant believe that 2 days ago i was like that..... cant convince my pg smoking friend to try it though..... GRRRRRRRR!

stick wiht it girl, u're doing really well, as is DH.

i'm sure once your friends want to stop they will do.

AggiePanther · 19/01/2006 16:51

Just wondered how you were getting on...if you've done 3 days then a lot of the nicotine will be out of your body ..and you may get an increase in cravings..but if you see this through it gets easier again. Apparently the 3's are tricky ..day 3 then week 3...not sure why.
Anyway just wanted to offer support

Piffle · 20/01/2006 10:46

Jess well done honey, my mum is also doing this and last cig was on Tuesday as well
She has been ok, but is finding it hard going today.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 20/01/2006 11:43

last night was tough, Jess was a NIGHTMARE DEVIL CHILD and i will admitt to 2 drags on a ciggy and then the urge to throw up. Made it even clearer in my head that i dont want to smoke.

Fingers crossed i can find a way to calm myself down before the bedtime nightmare tonight....

I gave up a few years ago, but i still remember how hard it is. You really have done so well, so try not to feel let down by a small setback, because that is all it is. I tried to think of it as like when I was learning to ride a bike. I fell off every now and then, but each time I got back on I rode for a bit further.

It doen't suprise me that you felt unwell. During the first year I gave up, i smoked on about 4 or 5 different occaisions, and each time I suffered pains in my arms (i used to get pains with the patches too, so I couldn't use those). The worst was on a girls night out, i smoked 6 ciggies and then could sleep for the pain. I was staying the night at friends, but ended driving home at 5.30am having not slept at all!!

Good luck.

beejay · 20/01/2006 12:27

I gave up with allen carr a few years ago, what a bloody genius that man is.
I admit I also cried I think around day 5. But the craving to smoke went remarkably soon if you can get through the first 2 weeks it really does get loads easie and you feel so much healthier (and richer too)
Good luck

notasheep · 20/01/2006 13:34

Jessica-dont bang yourself over the head, loads of us have hiccups along the way,I can talk!!!!

I felt it was good just to read Allen Carr over and over again,I ended up quoting him!!!

I gave up with Allen Carr's book about 10 years ago. God bless him.

It's a long tough road ahead for you Jessica's but you'll be so glad.

Well done for today and good luck for tomorrow.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 20/01/2006 19:08

Thanks girls - i was dreading looking here tbh, but im glad i did.

2 drags in 4 days compared to 20+ a day for 6 years..... I WILL DO THIS

colditz · 20/01/2006 19:10

You are very brave, it's a bit scarey to quit isn't it? When I quit I found myself wondering what I would use as my crutch.

Beetroot · 20/01/2006 20:26

jessrebbmummy, dont have any more drags. You don't need them. They are doing nothing for you. YOu are just feeding that craving. Re Read the book now to instill it into your mind

Spidermama · 21/01/2006 18:15

Now you've started this thread you'll have to keep us updated on your progress. I hope you're keeping it up. If not, don't worry. Just read the book and start again.

No-one would deny it's tough but I swear it gets easier.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 21/01/2006 19:53

not doing too bad - am reading the book again.... thought it was all a bit too good to be true!

Will keep you posted xxx

OP posts:
Spidermama · 21/01/2006 23:05

Good luck.

AggiePanther · 22/01/2006 12:46

Just have to reinforce that ...every drag you have will make things harder not easier..thinking 'I'll just have a quick drag to get me through this situation/problem/difficult time..' is the downfall of many ex smokers.
You end up more addicted and the problem/situation/difficult time is still there too.

Good luck and keep at it xx
