Bird Flu - Trevor McDonald

Did anyone see this tonight?

It all sounded highly grim. On the other hand, Trev's programme (going by other subjects covered) is usually somewhat lacking in its quality of journalism.

Are things as bad as they made out? A figure of potentially 500,000 deaths was mentioned.

I'm refusing to even let the possibility of this disease enter my head untill the disease has actually started to spread human to human. Then I may become slightly more concerned. As it is it seems a lot of theorising about something that is yet to properly happen. Although of course, not the case for the families who have lost, I am sure you see where I am coming from.

or you could get run over by a bus tomorrow.

Far more likely to die in your car than of bird flu.

mumfor1sttime · 16/01/2006 21:45

Thought Trev had bird flu for a minute then...

Er, yes..sorry the title does look a bit like that doesn't it! It would certainly be the most he's been involved in making his programme if he had though.

exactly - this outbreak started in 2003 - just over 70 people have died since then - mostly in East Asia - and ALL after coming into contact with infected birds - not infected humans.

Compare that with the fact that each winter more than 25,000 people in the UK alone died from cold-related illnesses !
