18 month old has 2 lumps on neck

My 18 month old has 2 smallish lumps right at the top of his neck, under his hair. Pretty sure they are not bone. They move when you squish them, and are softer than bone. What could they be, and would a doctor think I was wasting their time to get them checked out?

My ds had a lump in his neck -can't remember what GP said they were but it was fine. Something to do with glands I think. If you are worried get it checked out.

No, not time wasting to get them checked. How long have they been there? Is your DS well otherwise? ie any temperature etc?

winnybella · 13/01/2012 12:31

They are probably just lymph nodes. If he's feeling ok, I wouldn't worry. Some nodes go up and down with an infection, some don't get back to their original size. If they are less than a centimeter, they are unlikely to be anything sinister.

But, of course, do go and check with a doctor if you're worried-they will not laugh at you for asking.

yes they are less than a centimetre, and he's had them for months, but haven't had them checked out as he seems generally in good health.

Any unusual lumps need checking out just to rule out anything serious.

sausagesandmarmelade · 13/01/2012 13:39

unbelievable!

cornastasiaski · 13/01/2012 13:54

eh?

sausagesandmarmelade · 13/01/2012 14:40

Just astounded that someone would leave it so long to get something like that checked out on a young baby.

In all probability they probably are benign....but...well, just very surprised!

Yackityyak i just posted a simililar question under childrens health as my ds has a enlarged gland on the side of his neck some of the replies might help rather than make you feel bad !!!!!! But i would recommend getting it checked out for piece of mind if hem for months and is in good health otherwise i would think its nothing to worry about. I was the same worried to take him worried about what it could be but at least it will stop you worrying .
