Stopped at 6 months though carried on sterilising the teats for a month or so after then stopped when dd was drinking bthwter and licking the floor . I use tap water for her bottles too & have done since she was 8 months old .

i just find that in the microwave, the steam seems to finish off the cleaning process, rather than being bothered about the sterilisation. They feel all squeaky clean afterwards

Yes, poor neglected child was obviously bored as I spent hours on mumsnet . She's graduated onto licking windows these days.

Henda · 15/01/2006 21:44

So glad somebody else asked the sterilising question- DD is 10.5 months now and steriliser has just broken so I have now begun to boil them in a pan and am feeling like a paranoid mother and beginning to question if i am losing my mind standing over boiling water for hours - bring on the 12 month mark!!

chapsmum · 20/01/2006 22:59

when they get to the stage of eating you shoes, the hoover, the windows, the dog caught mine sookin on one of my snotty hankies today ewwwww... I have to wonder if its worth it???

Hanjan · 20/01/2006 23:06

i reallt dont know why I'm so paranoid- she rubs her dummy against God knows what and shoves it straight back in her mouth not to mention pulling chunks of hair out of the cat and straight into her mouth and I don't bat an eyelid but the dreaded milk bottles seem hold some kind of germy fear

nightowl · 20/01/2006 23:09

i stopped steralising as soon as she was eating fluff from the floor. i cant say i saw the point much then. she was about 11 months.

colditz · 20/01/2006 23:18

I stopped sterilising at 7/8 months, when in the space of a week he ate cat food and chewed to pushchair wheels.

Hanjan · 20/01/2006 23:20

I know that this is a bit of a change of subject but when did any of you switch from formula to cows milk?

nightowl · 20/01/2006 23:40

one year old for us.

Aloha · 20/01/2006 23:42

I never sterilised. A wash with hot soapy water or a turn in the dishwasher is fine.
And dd was sucking people's shoes (yikes) from about six months.

hana · 21/01/2006 00:33

switched when dd was 1
