(I'm sorry for the TMI)

I came on my period about three days and for the last two they have been horrendously heavy, not overly painful just very heavy. I normally get heavy periods but this is not normal for me.

I normally pass clots but they aren't very big, today they were huge (the size of a small sausage is the only thing I can think to compare), they keep coming and I am getting through a thick pad in an hour.

I'm reluctant to call out of hours as I'm not in unbearable pain, but I am very scared, this is nothing like I have experienced before.

I am on the pill, does that make any difference?

I know you said you are on the pill but Is there any chance you could be pregnant?

If your bleeding so much that itmismscaring you then you need to go to a&e x

How old are you? Sometimes menopause can do funny things to your cycle but I would have thought the hormones in the pill would override that. Do you take it for many months back-to-back? Any history of endometriosis or fibroids?

I'd definitely call your GP or go down to A & E.

Ring them for advice, sounds horrible. Especially if this is unusual and you on pill; thought would make periods lighter!

They should be able to help you, and font feel bad; that's what they're there for

If you have been getting through a big pad every hour you should speak to a Dr tonight. May be a one off, or may need investigating. At the very least they can give you drugs that reduce the blood loss.

Ring the OOH GP tonight. If you start to feel dizzy or faint go to A and E instead.

How old are you? How long on the pill?
I agree with popbiscuit that it could be normal during (peri)menopause, but not really otherwise!

You're probably best calling your GP or NHS direct, if you're worried.

Sorry I'm all over the place I forgot to add my age.

I'm 23 so not likely to be menopause I hope.

I am as sure as I can be that Im not pregnant, I take the pill regularly but it is a possibility.

I am going to ring our out of hours doctor I think, I just didn't want to ring without someone's opinion first as I needed to know how normal this is

Ring out of hours doctor, send someone else to get a pregnancy test and take it. You need to stop the blood loss quite fast before you get anaemic. There are drugs that will do this which act within an hour. Do not worry you are not about to die. :)

Hope you better today op
