DS2 (8 months) burnt his hand this morning. I took him to A&E and they put on a dressing and told me to ring Burns Clinic tomorrow to arrange to get the dressing redone.

He has of course completely removed the dressing in spite of my best efforts to keep it there. I'm trying hard to keep the burn (especially the blisters) clean, but it's a losing battle. Should I put something on? What? And should I bath him tonight?

scratch mits?

fisil · 15/01/2006 17:28

I tried mittens and he pulled them off

I'd skip the bath.

Can you tape a mitten on in some way with first aid dressing tape?

fisil · 15/01/2006 17:30

good plan. At least it gives him more layers to get through. Should I put some dressing on underneath?

don't put anything on that could stick as the skin could come off and try not to burst blisters. A plastic bag or clingfilm is good for an adult but I wiuld worry about the choking hazard with an infant.

burn dressings only

I have something in the first aid kit called Melolin Wound Dresing Pad which says you can use it on burns, so I'll use that. Don't have any scratch mits left so I'm going to use a sock instead.

do you have any aloe vera gel? literally works miracles on burns, can have dramatic effects overnight.

SoupDragon · 15/01/2006 17:37

I'd want some sort of non-stick dressing on in case the blisters burst and stuck to the mitten.

SoupDragon · 15/01/2006 17:38

Sock is good - it's longer so you can tape it round his arm underneath his sleepsuit

fisil · 15/01/2006 17:45

Thank you thank you. I have put the burn dressing on and then the sock (which comes up to his shoulder) and taped it in place and then put his PJs over the top. Good old MN!

Update. Took him to burn dressing clinic this morning. They taped him up good and proper so he looks like he's wearing a boxing glove. I'd like to see him getting that off! Looks like a poor little waif, but he's still crawling around very happily!

Right, he's had several hours.... how much tape has he managed to remove?
