Won't give too many details but friend developed a constant period with pain. Went to doctors and was diagnosed with ovarian cyst measuring 6cm (this seems huge to me??) was given another apointment but told not to worry. At new appointment they rushed her for blood tests and have set her up a new scan. Doctor would not tell her why. Nurse muttered something about "didn't the doctor tell you?" when friend asked what was going on then more or less refused to expand on that. Friend said "are you checking for cancer" and nurse said "it could be many things, but yes".
Pain is getting worse, stomach swelling. She's terrified. Please talk to me.

Her pain could be due to a fast growing cyst, but the doctors will always do full investigations to rule out anything more serious.

I think it's really sad that the doctors and nurses didn't talk to her more fully about what was happening. Is she still in hospital or at home? If at home, could she ring her gp for advice?

Very worrying for you both, while waiting for test results.

Do not panic- all of this is normal practise.

I had a 3 cms cyst monitored every 4 months for 2 years- then it went away.

Cysts are very common. Unless they are big ( over 5cms ) then they are left alone and usually benign.

Cancer in anyone under 50 is rare- I was post meno which is why they were concerned.

I was lucky to have a private dr so used to have the scan in one room then the appt with my gynae a few mins later to discuss findings.

They were always very open with me about what was going on and what they were looking for- i was treated as a complete equal.

I am sure your friend will be okay. Even if it is a larger cyst it is not likely to be cancer.

I had a 10cm cyst discovered at my 12 week scan with ds2, they did the cancer blood test thing (sorry I forget the name, CA125???), I just had regular scans, but no pain.

Is the pain getting much worse in a short period of time? I have heard of cysts twisting etc, which is apparently very painful and would require your friend to go to A&E. I read a hell of a lot about cysts at that time and it is very unlikely to be cancerous, wishing her much luck and a speedy recovery.
