Eat,cough then puke: advice please!

ds 15months old had lunch,coughed and puked it all straight back up.
Dinner,he did exactly the same!!!

Is it his cough? (its not a bad one)

He is sleeping fine.Just a little worried this may be the start of things to come.

The only times (twice since birth) DD has been sick, its been because of a cough. Admittedly, she was pretty snotty too - I think the mucous made her feel queasy, and the cough finished her off. Luckily for me, she'd only just had her milk both times and not food - but for what its worth, it never meant anything bad was coming.
Time will no doubt tell - hope its a one-off!

He has at least kept his milk down and sound asleep.

He just isnt a pukey baby-we will see what happens at breakfast.
Would hate to see him losing weight!

Mine wasn't a pukey baby either, you sound as surprised as I was! If he's asleep now, and was ok with his milk, it probably was just a badly timed cough....here's wishing you and him a peaceful night.

my dd is always up and down with her weight from loosing it when she gets ill to putting it back on afterwards. once she's better she will usually eat really well for the next couple of weeks and gets herself back up to the centile line she was on before. i know you haven't mentioned cough medicine, but if you do think of using it please don't as he needs to cough whatevers on his lungs up and if he doesn't it can cause a chest infection.

His chest actually sounds fine,no wheezing or rattling but up 3 times in night with him,and hasnt eaten today.As soon as he does one cough he starts crying,so very red eyed too

Obviously no puke today as no food.

Dont want to take him to doctor,hope a better night tonight

If he isn't eating, and cries when he coughs, he might have a very sore throat. Is he drooling at all? Does he have a fever? If so, I'd def. take him to the doc - hope you have a better night.

Yes-he is drooling loads,but that is very normal for him AND he has just cut another tooth.
Had temperature last night,but normal when i put him to bed.

Yes-his throat must be so sore.

Will see how the night goes-thanyou for your support and advice

my ds who is 12 mths as been exactly the same and believe it or not it tuened out to be a urine infection!!

Not crying so much-put just had lunch and puke straight back!

NOT the VOMIT bug,its his third day and i am getting so upset!

how much is he eating at the moment? he might feel hungry because he keeps bringing his food back up so maybe try small amounts but given more often this way he might keep the smaller amounts inside instead of bringing it back up.

has he got a cold and a snotty nose at all??

apparantly children can't digest mucus, they can't blow their noses and just swallow the mucus, and it has to come up!

This used to happen with my son a lot.. one cough and he'd empty his stomach..

Horrible isn't it...

My dd had a lot of chesty problems as a baby - when she had mucus on her chest it used to make her sick - and always after eating - she did it loads. She was always sick just the once after the meal, then she'd be fine. Always happened straight after eating - made me really distraught - but she used to sit there and laugh through it - didnt bother her one bit!!

Yes-a very snotty nose,constantly pouring the only thing he has managed NOT to puke back straight away
is Yoghurt and Milk,so at least he is having something

He isnt chesty fortunately.He just doesnt seem to be getting any better.

I bet its the mucus making him sick, should be ok once it dries up.

Yes-I thought it looked like snot he was puking.
He has been asleep most of the day so hopefully he will better tomorrow

ds is just never ill-so 3 days seems like an eternity,and tonight he coughed his milk up.

At least he is still sleeping well

notasheep. my ds has just had something similar but my ds sounds worse and has had diarrhoea too. Not great timing as we were in Lanzarote with no washing machine!

where abouts is he on the weight centile lines? my dd was always at the bottom of them or underneath them but she's now got up to the 2nd centile line. her's are always up and down as she is always getting ill. once he's better he'll gain the weight back quickly.

5 days. Think it was the winter vomiting bug though. He just moved into the toddler room in the creche, higher baby/minder ratio so am expecting more bugs from now on. Ho-hum.....
