Copper Coils

My friend has a coil and has had it for many years with no break. In the last couple of years though she has started suffering from pleurisy and other nasty infections generally, in addition to constant lethargy and sickness. In the past few months however she has also developed low blood pressure and has had a few bouts of passing out and sickness again. She has been to see the practice nurse about having her coil removed and was told it was a copper one. Her dh said he thought they didnt fit them now. In addition to this she had heart surgery when she was younger and needs antibiotic cover for birth/dental situations as well. The nurse thinks she may have an infection but has reluctantly agreed to sending Lizzie for an ECG. Surely she should have considered her heart problem in all of this?

Firstly the do still fit copper coils. The preference now is a marina wich is a copper coil with a hormone coating.
Secondly i presume she has to have antibiotic cover due to some kind of immune deficiency/ongoing heart trouble. In which case she should consider antibiotic cover for the insertion/removal of the coil.
Finally, I would say that if she has had on going pluracy etc, she should see he gp and have set of blood taken looking at her white cell count and inflammitory markers. She could have an infection in the heart.
DO NOT LEAVE THIS IN THE HANDS OF THE PRACTISE NURSE.See the gp
hope this helps
