thanks Footle Maybe I'll just see how I get on then. I have a recliner that I use all the time to rest from my other issues so hopefully that should make things more comfortable anyway. Grin

hairytaleofnewyork · 08/03/2012 19:06

Newbie here.

Have just had a physio appointment after a forceps birth and op for retain placenta - and she looked at me (didn't do a physical examination as I have thrush) and says she thinks I have a "mild" prolapse. Am going again in two weeks - and she said kegels will help, but I'm reading that kegels probably won't help a prolapse?

Any info gratefully received.

surewoman · 08/03/2012 20:52

Hi there hairy (!? lol!!) - if you have just recently had a baby then definitely do your kegels as you will be able to strengthen things up before the sagging begins and might well find that you can lift it all back naturally (try lots of crawling on all fours and sleeping on your tummy too, plus lying on bed with legs in the air!) You may well need 'help' years later, but worth going down the exercise route first. I had a lot of burst ligaments which PFE can't help as these exercises only strengthen the muscles x

Pre/Post-Op ladies - my DS2 had one of those small sausage shaped poly/bean cushions (used for neck rests I think) which I 'borrowed' (can't understand why he doesn't want it back now! Lol!!) and I found it really useful at night just behind the top of your thighs/below buttocks as it stops you slipping down in bed and pulling on your stitches if your are propped up, and then between your thighs to sleep on your side also stops the pulling. Hope this helps x

Ben10HasFinallyLeftTheBuilding · 08/03/2012 21:41

Ooh I have of of those cushions ready to take into hospital. Thanks Surewoman

another newbie alert Grin

I have been reading this thread for a few days now and gleaning lots of information .... thank you ladies Thanks

lots of very different experiences of the medical profession as well as the actual "conditions" and the treatments. Its great however to get real experiences rather than the medical blurb that does not always reflect the reality of it. There seems too here to be more information thats not always forthcoming from some of the professionals unless one knows the exact questions to ask in the first place ! .... and even though I was a nurse for some years my expertise was not in the "ladies bits" departments so I still need to ask loadsa q's Wink.

Been going through the system of persuading GP I really, really was having problems with periods, prolapse symptoms plus bladder / bowels issues .....

had to check bloods etc to see what hormones doing ( not much help cos although bloods said menopuase uterus said no Confused )
...through scans on ovaries ( well when they could find the right one) which said might have been adenomyosis but he would not say conclusively

referred to cons for proplases but he was unaware of period problems .. arrggh so he would not do anything till that investigated and when I asked GP why he had not mentioned excess bleeding / pain he had the good grace to look a bit sheepish when he admitted he had delayed it hoping it would all go away ( presuming that it was def me nearing menopause !!!)

..... through hysteroscopy ( removed a polyp which seems to have stopped the bleeding Grin

.... had pessary put in

..... urodynamics

... see registrar who said I should lose weight as obesity caused problems... errmmmm yes I am a bit overweigh but ahem.. was a nurse of many years looooooong before slings / hoists invented and in use, had three DD lightest 7lb 15oz heaviest 10lb 1oz (one of which a syntocinin induced 2 hour "quickie") plus I have a tendancy to ferocious coughs in winter ( so strong I broke three ribs coughing !)

at long last cons agreed to do anterior and posterior repairs... had said at appt he would also do tvt but just had a letter to say he has changed his mind and will do a bladder buttress instead. I have seen that mentioned somewhere on this thread I think so will do a search in a mo and see what information I can glean ! I do have a uterine prolapse too but he says not bad enough for the riskier abdominal approach he would need to do as uterus "too bulky" !

I see there are quite a few here having surgery soon too ( my date is 30th march) .... thats been quick for me as its only been three weeks since put on list.

I wish everyone well and speedy recoveries.

likestoski · 09/03/2012 11:29

Newbie alert!!

It has taken me a week but I have got to the end of this thread. My husband thinks I am crazy reading this as I am scaring myself but I have found all the information and advice really helpful. I am a true girl guide - be prepared!!!

Brief history, had hysterectomy sept 2010 due to adenyomiosis. Best decision ever made until....... dragging sensation, constipation, hard black poos, never feeling I had emptied etc etc. Went to consultant and diagnosed a rectocele. Options were physio or surgery. We opted for surgery, he felt that PFE would only stop it getting bigger but as I presented symptoms it would not help much!! So surgery here i come.... going in on Tuesday. So here's to another six weeks of wearing bridget jones style pants and surgical stockings!!!

Had read on hear about mesh etc etc but he did not want to do that as I am only 35 and he felt that my sex life would be affected.
Been for pre op wednesday and bloods today so it's real!!! Best get to M&S to buy some nighties!!

Will post my experiences on here after op - hopefully all positive.

Nannasylv · 09/03/2012 12:29

Hi all, having a bad (therefore horizontal with legs up on exercise ball) day! Left lower back, buttock, thigh, and leg really painful (despite patch!), so no use to man nor beast! I feel soooo! jealous of those who are getting/ have had , repair. I feel really mean for saying that, but I hope you understand.

Hugs to all!

fengirl1 · 09/03/2012 15:09

Sorry to hear you're having a bad day Nannasylv. I am too but for other reasons.... Perhaps we can feel envious together! Hope you feel better soon. X

fengirl1 · 09/03/2012 15:54

Just finally had some positive news... Clinic appt next tues so will see consultant, hopefully get the pseudo-cancer out of the ways and get some answers out of him! Just pray I don't come on before then....

likestoski · 09/03/2012 16:26

I did not mean to "gloat" and I completely understand your frustrations!
I just wanted to say that I found this site really useful and wanted to share my experiences as well.

Having read through the whole thread, going back to 2009, I feel as I have been through everyone's journeys! x

Piplysmelie · 09/03/2012 16:47

Don't worry, I don't think anyone thought you were gloating Like. I am fairly new to this thread but it seems to me that everyone is supportive and I sure happy for you. I hope all goes well and looking forward to reading the post op reports.

Have a lovely weekend all. X

happy2beme · 09/03/2012 19:05

Hi all remember started reading all these posts ( or the earlier ones) about 10 mths ago, felt I wanted to join in loads of times(dont normally do forums lol), I was frightened , sore, bewildered , confused, depressed and any other adjective that you would care to add on. But also quite intimidated I know that sounds funny but everyone on here seemed so strong and got on very well, but I was still comforted by reading almost everyday all the new posts , positive and negative.Eventually felt ready to join in and I say this again I would not have made it without the Kind, funny, anonymous love xx that was given. Thanks to the forum I have got through this with my sanity and dare I say it my marriage intact :). I have likened my "fallen Fanjo" to a big pork link(sausage to my english friends):). I have discussed pooing, peeing every form of body secretions including the ickey sex stuff xxGrinxxoxx so to all you newbies keep posting, no offence taken, bad days are acknowledged and hopefully shared , everybodies journey is the same but different and thats what makes this forum great !! the knowledge and empowerment we all gain from joining in is awesome, so welcome :) and much love to all xx

tazzle · 09/03/2012 21:19

surewoman · 09/03/2012 22:19

Happy - what a great post you have just written. I think it sums it all up for everyone here... so very true, and aren't we lucky to have this forum and each other?

Here's to all of us WineThanksGrin xxx

jackie62 · 10/03/2012 00:34

Hi to all the newbies and welcome!!
Just to update really...recovering well, but possibly doing a bit too much, I am about week 10 post op from TVT removal. I am lying in bed at the moment with a warm wheat bag on my right pubic area trying to keep it warm. Strange thing really, but where the blood has gathered and gone solid it gets really cold and firm. If I lean forward it makes a very unsettling cracking noise! If I massage it as instructed it gets very sore. It is going down a little bit everyday so hopefully I will be able to report progress in a week or two!
Glad to hear people making progress with tests and op dates. Good luck to you all.
Like... Please don't have mesh!
Nannasylv, hope things get resolved soon. I may have said it before but Patient Liaison (PALS) at the hospital really get things moving if nobody seems to be sorting you out. Thinking of you a lot as we all are. It would be lovely to see a diagnosis, op date and recovery for you. We are all routing for you...
Xx

Piplysmelie · 10/03/2012 09:27

Hi all

Jackie glad to hear you are feeling a bit better, keep taking it easy though. I love the wheat bags too!

I wondered if anyone has used the Kegal 8 pelvic floor machine? It has a programme for prolapse and as I want to build my pelvic floor before op I am thinking of buying it.

Any thoughts?

Piplysmelie · 10/03/2012 09:34

Oh forgot to say my husband had mesh for a hernia op about 3 years ago. He could feel it for about a year and described it as a crinkly feeling. It did "grow in" and does not cause him any problems now. However he did find it a bit disconcerting to bend down and feel this crinkling.

I know it is not the same op or same area as us but thought it might help someone who is making the decision about mesh.

Nannasylv · 10/03/2012 17:47

fengirl1, jackie62, Piplysmelie, and all, thanks for the support. It's a little easier today (new patch last night?), so I'm not so grotty, although 2nd day in PJ's (shocking, isn't it?). For all the wird, wonderful, and the not-so-wonderful things you all post, it's so uplifting (forgive the pun) to read all of your comments! Keep posting, you're keeping me hoping!

Hugs to all!

XX

Nannasylv · 10/03/2012 17:57

fengirl1 - I hope your "other reasons" are now no more, and that you are feeling a bit better. Thinking of you
