Hi Maisied - he was my consultant when I was pg. Never met him - my only contact with him was when he called to give me some test results. I hope your improvement continues. Happy, glad to hear the jammy party was a success.

surewoman · 20/02/2012 20:59

Hi all - had my urodynamics test bought forward to this Thursday, but I have only started filling in my wee chart today - does anyone know if only having filled in three days will be enough information for the docs? Also, has anyone else had this test done and what does it entail? Wondering if it will upset my new scar tissue?

Thanks all x

Bye the way - I was shown the letter written by the consultant who did my repair in Nov to the new one saying he had only put 3 PDS stitches in, one of which he had snipped. However, the surgery report from 3rd Feb with new consultant says that they surgically removed multiple PDS sutures!!! He also suggested it might be a good idea to cancel my final appointment with the first consultant as he didn't feel it would be very fruitful! Something has definitely been going on behind the scenes!! How I wish I could put the clock back to pre-surgery and start all over again with the second consultant - someone who knows what he is talking about!

DoomBar - thanks for the reply. Sounds like I need to go in blind for this one! How much of a bladder problem did you have?

cardamomginger · 20/02/2012 22:14

Hi surewoman. I had urodynamics done. I think I had to do a week's worth of chart filling - you could always fill in the other days using the figures you have as a guide? (Not recommending fabricating test forms as a rule!)

You will be asked to undress from waist down and will be given a hospital gown to wear. A VERY VERY VERY fine tube will be inserted into your bladder through the urethra together with a couple of wires to gauge pressure. The nurse will get you to breathe in and out deeply as she does this, but other than a couple of seconds of discomfort, it really is fine. I've had a cystoscopy done, and it is nothing compared to that. The specialist nurse/doctor will gradually fill your bladder with water through the tube and will take pressure readings to see how the bladder muscle responds. I think (bit hazy here) I was asked to draw in my pelvic floor at one point to see what this did to the pressure reading. She also asked me to tell her when I felt full or felt like I needed to do a wee, and took more readings at those points. I was then asked to stand up, more readings taken. And then to jump up and down (!!), more readings taken. My tests were before I had any of my surgery, so she inserted a ring pessary to mimic the situation post surgery when the prolapse was fixed. This is a doughnut shaped piece of softish plastic and it's like having a diaphragm put in. More readings, more jumping up and down, and more readings. This is because urinary incontinence can worsen after cystocele repair, unless something (tape/colopsuspension) is done as well, so they need to know what the situation will be. At the end of it all, I was asked to do a wee in a comode type thing (she left the room and turned the tap on to help me!) so she could measure whether there was any difference between what she put in and what I produced. I think that's about it. Took about 30 minutes.
It was really OK and I was absolutely fine to go home under my own steam as soon as I was done.

I doubt it would upset your scar tissue - the tube and wires are so tiny. Could you telephone the department/referring doctor and check that they know you've recently had the surgery?

Good luck!

cardamomginger · 20/02/2012 22:15

Oops. Should I not have given such a detailed account???? Sorry.... Blush.

fengirl1 · 20/02/2012 22:27

Cardomom - I think that's a fair reflection of what happened to me too. Was all fine and nurse v nice and kind. Have never seem such a selection of pads to choose from if you're having a period either!!!

cardamomginger · 20/02/2012 22:36

Good to know it's a fair representation. Just don't want to freak Sure out!!

surewoman · 20/02/2012 22:37

Thanks Carda and Fen - will sleep better for that! Smile x

cardamomginger · 20/02/2012 22:46

I hope so Sure Smile. You will be fine. The most arduous bit for me was having to pee into a sodding jug for a week Grin. Really hope the results are good. X

maisied1959 · 21/02/2012 10:47

hi all some of you may have already seen this website but I think its really informative and Dr Constantine seems caring due to the work he does in Kamuli & Uganada.

Nannasylv there is an item on This Morning about a 66 year old guy with bladder problems due to prostrate cancer and about how its affecting his sex live etc ............

Nannasylv · 21/02/2012 13:49

Thanks, Maisie, I just tried to see it, but couldn't get that part of the show. Perhaps I'll find it elsewhere, but no joy yet.

Footle, this made me chuckle (sorry!), but I think, at our ages, we know what goes where, and which way up!

Nannasylv · 21/02/2012 14:47

Footle, I wasn't questioning you, just that your physio would even suggest the need for this! I hope I didn't offend you.

jackie62 · 21/02/2012 15:19

Hello everyone!
I had my 8 week check on Thursday and it went very well. Things seems to be in the right place and healing nicely. I am pretty bulky inside the vagina having had front and back work done. The 'buttress' is quite large, but I suppose I will get used to it. The advantages far out way the disadvantages really. One side effect is that if I lean forward it nudges my urethra and I feel like I have wet myself but I haven't! A bit unsettling but again i will get used to it!
Sure, I wouldn't worry about the number of days of filling the chart if you have been caught on the hop! They just need a generally pattern of water in and water out. I think they are very interested in whether you go in the night.
I have to say it was so embarrassing that i ended up in giggles with the urogyny nurse. I ended up eventually wetting myself completely, with water going everywhere, seemingly in all directions! I then saw her a lot when I had the TVT and couldn't wee, and she was excellent. They see it everyday, it's what they do. They love it and honestly won't hold It against you if you wee on their floor!
Footle, I think I agree with you about the dilators. It's a bit intimate isn't it!
Then again, going back to the urngyny wee thing, I knew I was in trouble when I found myself half naked in the loo with a nurse I hardly knew trying to locate my urethra, with one leg on the edge of the toilet and the other on the towel holder, wobbling around and weeing on my foot!
Have you had your results yet Nannasylv? They really take the mickey don't they? I bet there is someone there who could have put the data on the system for you before now. Three weeks is a long time, especially if the results were available ages ago. It makes you want to go in and type the stuff up yourself doesn't it?!
Very interesting how many of us had posterior births...I think there is a research paper there?
Xx

Nannasylv · 21/02/2012 15:32

Hi Jackie, thanks for asking, and NO, I still don't have them! I'll ring the consultant's secretary again tomorrow, and if they're still not there, I'll pursue the radiography department again. I couldn't believe they were just sat there, waiting to be typed up, and yes, I would willingly have done that for them. Perhaps I should be applying for a job there, when/if this ever gets fixed! I wouldn't mind doing that, as long as it's not on the WorkFare programme!
maisied1959 - I looked at that Constantine chap, and he's local! I wonder if I might get sent there, if no-one else can do it?, although Mr Matharu reckoned it would be a Colorectal person, when they get the results. Everything's crossed here for definite results tomorrow.

Hello, I found this thread by googling like a crazy woman! I had my DD over 2 years ago now and was diagnosed with a prolapse at my 6week check. Cant remember what type. I was referred to woman's physio and had electrical stimulation for a while before being discharged. I was told i was too young for surgery and as i want more children i wouldn't qualify. I am now 28 and have been ttc#2 since July2010 with no luck. I have pcos and have been prescribed clomid. I had a look last night with a mirror Blush and things look horrific. Bulges and little flaps and all sorts. I worry that my cervix has dropped also. I am not sure what to do because we are ttc i think they will just tell me to deal with it but i am concerned that my cervix has dropped and that this is contributing to my lack of pregnancy!

Not sure what i expect you to do but i feel better writing it down!

Nannasylv · 21/02/2012 17:58

izzybizzybuzzybees - I found talking to everyone else here, and researching on the net has been priceless. If you don't fight for this, you could be left wilting for years!! as have I , as well as many others on here! This group is fantastic for cheering you up, on your bad days, and sharing any good ones! I would be lost without them.

Nannasylv · 21/02/2012 17:59

Footle - a bit like Shrek then! lol

fengirl1 · 21/02/2012 18:29

Izzy - the 'flaps' and bobbly bits are where everything has got a bit loose. You really need to see your gp and let them have a look... As far as ttc is concerned, I'm now sure how much of an effect a prolapse may have, but you could get fitted with a ring pessary to hold things in a more normal position if you do have a prolapse. Hope this helps.
Nannasylv, I reckon Footle's nurse is worried she stood them on end and tried to set light to them cos she thought they were candles!!!!

Izzy - hi there! There are a few girls around who have had their 'bits' fixed prior to getting pregnant again, and have then had cesarians and the repair jobs have held. What fen says about the pessary might be worth investigating as it can hold your cervix up and you don't have to take it out to have sex (so they say, don't know myself) which might increase your odds of getting pregnant (alternatively have sex and then stand on your head for 20 mins afterwards!!! lol Grin). Good luck with it all, we are all here for mental support x
