omeprazole for ulcer/gastritis/reflux

I've been given this after taking ibuprofen and suffering from severe burning/gnawing pain between shoulder blades (no pain at front) and doctor said the ibuprofen had most likely given me one of the above. I'd like to know how long it takes for the omeprazole to take the pain away and has anyone had only the pain between the shoulders and not in the stomach or chest. The pain is worse when I eat and after eating and at night.

I give this to my baby. I've heard it takes 2-4 weeks to have its full effect.

Great stuff but does take a while to reach full efficacy, can you do without the ibuprofen for a bit?

Mine works quite quickly but I have been in it for at least 3 years now.

yes I've stopped taking the ibuprofen as they think that caused the problem

Hi there,
Omeprazole IIRC is a Proton pump inhibitor, reducing the secretion of gastric fluids into your stomach. The effects of 1 single dose can be seen for up to 2-3 days after administering so it acts quickly.
But the length of time it may take for your stomach lining irritation to settle down may be longer.

the excess acid had damaged mt oesophagus and given me a cough. The heart burn type symptoms subsided quickly (within a week) but the cough took a good month or two to die down (though it was pretty bad).

Stick to smaller meals and not too high fat and keep the alcohol in moderation and don;t eat late beofre going to lie down (in my experience not scientific)

thanks for info - also did you get headaches with it as I've had one for the last 3 days and I'm taking 2 x 20mg a day

no no headaches. I started on 2x20 and it was reduced to 1x20 once it was under control. Will be on them for life but I get no side effects so no real worries.
