How do you get rid of a virus then?

I have a virus thing. Well I am guessing it still is. Had it since before christmas and ended up with a throat infection. Got rid of throat infection, more or less bar a bit of unpleasant coughing Hmm and a slightly squeaky voice. But I am still totally knackered, achey, slighlty nauseous and generally feeling like the living dead (also looking like living dead!). I have no energy, no patience and no motivation to do anything. I also have trouble sleeping. DS1 needs a lot of 'encouragement' to get his revision done for GCSEs and I can't summon up the energy.

What's the best way to get rid. I am taking some vile concoction of kiwi fruit my mother supplied me and insisted I try Hmm, also multivitamins and minerals. Lots of water. I am taking ibuprofen anyway because my back is killing me. What else? Help! I can feel depression creeping up on me again and I know it's related to the way I am feeling, and I don't want to go back there.

You have to let a virus run its course I'm afraid.

You can help yourself by resting and sleeping as much as possible and eating healthily.

I am feeling crap atm and have been taking Seven Seas Tonic 3 X per day and I think its beginning to help.

Excercise really helps with depression although the effort involved in doing any when you are feeling low is tough let alone if you are achey and ill as well. Can you manage a little stroll around the block. Just to get out for 10 minutes or so every day will help.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks fairy.

I am at work so not stuck in the house. I keep trying to get the energy together to walk the dog but it's been down to the kids for the last few days TBH.

It's shit isn't it? If I had a decent illness I could like around in bed all day being waited on (hollow laugh!) and maybe I'd lose my appetite (even hollower laugh). As it is I am eating too much so not only do I look and feel like the living dead, I am also fat! Angry

I take vitamin c effervescent 1000mg as soon as I feel a cold or virus coming on, seems to help a bit.

Is your back hurting where your lungs are? Cos if so, you could have something like pneumonia or pleurisy. Have you been to the doctors at all? If you haven't recently, I'd go back.

Oh my lovely, I am so sorry you are feeling like this. I too suspect that unfortunately nothing much can be done to shift it, if it is viral (although you may have the additional loveliness of a bacterial infection as well, of course...)

Down the ibruprofen for the backache, try and get as much rest and fluid as you can, and if you can't face any exercise at least try and get a bit of outside daylight to help with the depression.

Commiserations.

Thankyou.

almost - I went before christmas and got anti-bs for the throat infection (and got thrush! Joy!).

peanuts - I think you must know my mum Grin She also gave me some fizzy vit c things but I have been avoiding them as they make me gag. i thought the kiwi stuff was enough re vit c.

MI - many thanks for the sympathy! I sometimes feel like I only come on here to whinge..... How are things with you?
