How were you 4months on, completely better or still having some issues. Just want to see if I am about right in the healing process or if something isn't quite right.

Didn't break it but have had it broken during surgery. I was still in quite a lot of pain on and off at four months, needed anti inflamatories (votrol/brufen etc). It was a while ago but I think it took a good 12 month before I had no discomfort from it. HTH :)

my dh broke his collarbone in august, just had a checkup to see how the healing its going. the doctor said it can take 6-8 months to really heal, and he is still to take care/be sensible with it

v crap and frustrating

Not a sternum but ribs and they still play up from time to time now, four years down the line.

thanks I was getting a little worried as still get bouts of breathlessness and still very tender if knocked or pressed upon and aches in the evenings. Was worried as they said 2-3 months and it is now 4.

Had my sternum broken in surgery one month ago. I'm not in pain, but am on strict orders to lift nothing over 10 lbs. Also very restricted on physical activities, no washing, ironing, changing beds etc.

When I do lift or push more than my comfort zone I really feel it. Were you given restrictions to follow during your recovery?

yawningmonster · 28/12/2011 04:48

hi madsometimes, I was told to take it easy for 6-8 weeks and although they didn't say not to do physical activities I couldn't have done those in the early days. I can manage those things now but my stamina has still taken a hit and I get tired much more easily than I did.

I shunted my sternum out of place as a child and cracked it slightly that was v painful and took long time to heal
