The bottle says I shouldn't but it is Christmas Xmas Smile.

I am on 10mg for nerve pain and muscle spasm as well as 3 x 300mg Gabapentin which I can drink on.

I am not a heavy drinker at the best of times, maybe 2 glasses of wine or a bottle of cider. Am I just going to feel more drunk or more drowsy if I indulged or are there really bad dangerous side effects?

Forgot to say that I will be going up to 20mg next week. I take it at 8pm at night.

I think if it's says you shouldn't it's best not to
If you felt groggy & crap Xmas day that would be rubbish
Plus would you enjoy a drink if you were worried it would make you feel crap?

Googling tells me that mixing nortriptilyne and alcohol can cause "dangerous side effects" - one named one is that the alcohol would exacerbate the drowsiness that the drug itself can cause.

Haven't looked further. But basically best to avoid if thats what you've been told and the leaflet with the medicine says.

I know I shouldn't and I won't.

I needed someone to bash it into me really. I've been ill for so long now and this will be the 2nd Christmas on stupid drugs that I can't drink on...even though I've had surgery now.

Oh well. Hopefully they'll keep the pain away so I can enjoy Christmas this year and that's the main thing. Thank you

I'm on this and wasn't aware of the non drinking thing! However I have been throwing up continuously since I started taking it 3 weeks ago Hmm I'm thinking that's not a good thing

Shame, i'm on it for the same reasons as you OP and it seems to help :(

OnTheBen10DaysofChristmas · 18/12/2011 20:57

Sorry to hear that you've been throwing up Nearly. What dose are you on? I'm only on 10mg this week and then 20mg next week. I haven't really had any side effects from it apart from a bit of an odd ear - I am strange - with Amytriptiline last year I had dreadful tinititus!

It does seem to be doing to job to get rid of the muscle spasms and nerve pain that the Gabapentin leaves behind which is a very good thing.
