Is the implant a good option? Worried about sensitive stomach.

I was going to get the implant but I'm worried about side-effects. I have some stomach problems and have reacted to certain contraceptive pills in the past.

Anyone had a good experience with the implant? I'm having heavy periods at the moment and I'd love them to be reduced.

TIA

I have had 2 implants. The first one was fab, had a period once a year (which is unusual apparently) and never had a 'slip up'. Second one was very different and after the first year, I bled for 8 months straight.

However, don't let that put you off, GP explained to me that each one is different and if I had told them they could have given me a different one, used pill to regulate and minimise periods etc. Do be careful and carry on using protection though for the first month as it can take a while. One of my friends got pregnant off it, v unusual again but happened.

Oh and doesn't hurt, really and it's the best party truck to grab it under your skin totally freaks people out Grin

I have heavy periods due to a medical condition too.

my sister had mood swings and constant bleeding with it and ended up getting it removed early

Ooh those are varied responses! Still undecided!

I loved mine - no problems

BroomBuBuBum · 03/12/2011 09:59

I had one, it was absolutely brilliant for 2 years, no periods at all but then the third year it seemed to a bit strange, scarily heavy long periods so I had it removed.

SIL has just had hers taken out after 2 years. No bleeding problems but the second year she turned into a hormonal maniac Hmm

hmmm. Thanks for that! So it could go either way really. Not sure I want to take the risk, my stomach/weight has just about stabilised after 2 years.

I got mine out after a year as did 2 friends as we all had really heavy bleeding, my sil is currently seeing a gynaecologist as she has heavy bleeding and she has an implant too.

IHeartKingThistle · 03/12/2011 21:12

It's so weird that so many people are saying that they had heavy bleediing after the first year. Not much of a long term option then is it? Confused
