I've been sick for a week now, last week I had a heavy cold with a horrible cough and sore glands and throat and runny nose. Nose and throat a lot better but last few days I have had pain in my glands, ear and wisdom teeth. I have had a round of antibiotics already. I am in pain but don't know who to see. Not sure if teeth are sore because of bad cold or if it is a separate issue.

Good old GPs eh...antibiotics again as first line and WITHIN A WEEK of having cold symptoms.
Is it that bad that you need to see someone? I usually let the body heal itself. A week really isn't abnormal for a cold to linger. As long as you are looking after yourself and resting you should throw it off soon. If it were to last a couple of weeks then I might go to the doc.

It's more the pain I am struggling with, keeping me up at night. The anti biotics were for an infected cold sore I had but dr said that they would deal with anything else too.

GP will be able to prescriibe you some painkillers, hope you feel better soon neep

Antibiotics wouldn't have worked against a cold anyway; so get some painkillers and see how it goes.

OhSuzanna · 24/11/2011 11:40

You need to change your GP. If he/she is prescribing antibiotics for a cold sore issue that's a worry.

I wonder if you are the type who normally is very well and so this has come as a shock. Like the other poster I think you should just relax and convalesce and your body will heal itself.

Take a course of echinacea. It's a immunity booster - very natural and safe, perhaps that's all you need.

Saw dr, there is an infection, more bloody antibiotics. Just want this awful pain to stop!

Are you winding us up or is your doctor winding us up?

FannyFifer · 24/11/2011 13:06

Are you taking painkillers?

neepsntatties · 24/11/2011 14:14

Why would I be winding you up? What an odd thing to say. First set of anti b's were not for the cold but a bad cold sore that I had had for 2 weeks and that had become infected. Dr says I now have an infection which is causing the pain in my glands/ear/ teeth. Was a different dr this time. I asked for pain killers but he said I needed to get rid of the infection.

I am taking paracetamol and ibuprofen. I am breastfeeding so probably not much else I can take. Think I am a bit run down generally due to lack of sleep. Hope the dr has done the right thing, don't want to take things unnecessarily.

Viral and fungal infections are known to lower immunity to bacteria so I wouldnt be surprised if a cold sore went septic.
