Mil in hospice

Mil got diagnosed with stage iv stomach cancer last year. Treatment is palliative. She has had few stents but after one last week she decided to go into hospice. My dh says this is to convalesce. Could this be likely? I am v worried for her as emitionally she seems to have lost the fight. And in any similar experience how have people supported their family through this.

People can be admitted to hospices for symptom control then allowed to return home.

Supporting somebody through this is extremely difficult and very stressful, but I'd say to continue visiting and try not to be maudlin. Terminally ill people still enjoy experiencing the normality of life as this reminds them that they're still alive.

My first dh was in the hospice for the last weeks of his life and the best visits that we had were from his colleagues who didn't treat him any differently from how they'd treated him when he was in work. They were cheerful, friendly and open. The worst people were his siblings who buried their heads in the sand and refused to visit Sad

Try to help with practical stuff and general support and just be as natural as possible.

Hope your MIL is more comfortable soon.
