In so much pain

I'm in absolute agony, just under my left breast. GP suspects a broken rib but says x-ray is waste of time because they can't do anything. Has given me tramadol which made me spacey for 24hours, I just couldn't function and it can't happen again as I have 2 young children to look after. Has also given me Naproxen. This by itself doesn't seem to be enough to actually be able to move though, I've taken paracetamol as well now. I'm nearly crying I'm in so much pain.

Does anyone know if I can I use volterol gel on the area whilst taking the Naproxen?

When DD's ribs were broken A&E didn't x-ray her. They said rib fractures often didn't show up on the film. They took a history of how the injury occurred and looked at her physical symptoms and made the diagnosis from that. She had to manage on paracetamol as she has an allergy to NSAIDS.

Had a chest infection and something "went" when coughing. That was 2.5 weeks ago. I've had antibiotics and naproxen for the pain then. My chest is now clear apparently although I am still coughing up stuff only in the morning. I went back to the GP about the pain on Monday after it just not improving at all. He said he suspected I had broken a rib coughing so much and gave me tramadol. I did question at the time whether I could brake a rib with coughing and he was adament that that was what the problem was and nothing could be done so there was no point x-raying.

Sorry, meant to say...I was told I couldn't use an ibuprofen based gel at the same time as taking the same family of drugs orally
