UTIs in men

So my 34 year old partner has had 3 UTIs in 4 years, so his GP is sending him for an appt at the hospital to check on his kidney function etc. My partner hasn't had any other symptoms (aching back, blood in urine etc.)- just the UTIs. But now I am absolutely worried sick. Anyone else's man been through this?

Yes my dh has utis, for some reason cranberry doesnt work on men as well as women from what I have read.

Does he drink enough water? I think the gp is just doing his job really. Remember serious complaints usually knock you for six pretty badly so dont panic yet!

Not really- he perfers fizzy diet drinks, so I wonder if that is an issue. Like you say, kidney infections etc., tend to have a host of other symptoms and you are pretty poorly with them. But you know when you have that nagging little doubt in your mind? That voice that keeps saying "what if?" i'm not very good with medical things. I go into panic mode...

Does he hold off going to the loo?
MrNC used to get UTIs sometimes especially in winter, simply from not wanting to get up and go downstairs to the bathroom.

Probably just one of those things and the GP is being extra cautious - but if there is anything else up, you'd want to know about it!

Fizzy drinks are acidic, they contain phosphoric (sp) acid, the body has to neutralise it and uses calcium out of the bones to do so.

He really needs to drink fizzy water or fizzy water with squash.

Typical male behaviour, they dont take good care of themselves and we do all the worrying.

What causes your partner's UTIs? has he had to have a hospital trip...???
