My daughter has just announced she is pregnant.

3 weeks ago she had an operation on adhesions to her womb from previous surgery. She had 3 lots of different anti biotics. A general anaesthetic, anti sickness drugs for a few days, anti blood clotting injections, painkillers, including morphine, injected and oramorph.

This was before she knew she was pregnant and it's very early days. Are any of these things something to be concerned about regarding harm to the baby.? Obviously it's Friday night, we are still in shock and I didn't think about it when she dropped the bombshell. Now panicking a bit.

Number is 0845 4647

How's your DD?

How pregnant is she? if shes only just found out - say 4 or 5 weeks then I would guess at it being fine during the 'bunch of cells' stage. I'm no expert though

She should have had a pregnancy test before the surgery.
The biggest risk from surgery etc would be of miscarriage, rather than damage to the developing foetus.
It's very common to be taking all sorts of medications etc before realising you're pregnant.
It sounds like she must be v early on, so as lubeybooby says.

How long has she known?

Downnotout · 18/11/2011 20:49

Yes just found out yesterday. But I am also guessing at 4/5 weeks as she had numerous tests previous to that which I am also presuming included a pregnancy test. The truth is though I don't know for sure so she could be further on but I think it's unlikely.
She has the injection for contraception and I think the antibiotics she had initially have caused it not to be effective.

DD is in serious talks with her boyfriend. It's all a bit raw at the moment.

You need to take her to see a doctor, that is the only way you will be able to find out for certain. It is always hard but try not to put too much stress on the fact that there could be something wrong or she may well end up losing the baby and no one wants to go through that. She needs you now more than she has eveer needed you before adn she obviously has a good relationship with you to have been able to tell you so soon, which shows what a great mum you have been, so well done and bear in mind it took guts for her to tell you. Good luck and best wishes. x

Hi, I had an operation at 13 weeks pregnant and had anti sickness drugs, Morphine and oramorph for weeks and weeks after my op and my son arrived safely and healthy 8 days late. I also had daily injections of the anti clotting drugs 3 times a day whilst I was in the hospital for the 13 days I was there post op and also every antibiotic known to man!!

I'm sure eveything is fine x
