I'll be having surgery next year - but my surgeon will be plicating the tissue, which is where the repair is strengthened by pleating the tissue to make it thicker. He says (and I've read up on this and he's right) that there is no evidence that using a mesh for a posterior vaginal wall repair gives a better outcome. And given that using a mesh introduces a foreign object into the body, if there is no evidence of better clinical outcome, then you shouldn't do it. This is in contrast to an anterior vaginal wall repair (front wall), where the use of certain meshes does produce a clinically better result than a repair without one. Have no idea why there is this difference between posterior and anterior repairs - didn't ask.
