Have I got a morphine addiction?

so two weeks ago I'm admitted to hospital with a slipped disc and I can have 20mls of oromorph every hour if I want it and I had it most hours.

Was in hospital a week and got discharged with bottles of the stuff.

So Sunday was my first day out and I went through a bottle. It's a 100ml bottle. 10mg in 5mls.

Went to see gp on Monday who says she's worried about how much I'm on. I have another bottle on Monday.

I had a bit over half a bottle on Tuesday.

Then yesterday my pain was a bit better so I didn't have any.

By late afternoon I'm feeling awful. Nausea, sweating, hot and cold flushes. Then had some morphine and felt better ten minutes later and went to sleep.

Woke up today. Haven't had any morphine yet and have been getting steadily worse all day. Have been unable to get out of bed apart from to go and throw up.

I'm seeing the gp tomorrow. She said she wanted me to go back as she was worried about the morphine. She said she might put me on a slow release tablet. Should I have some more morphine now? If I'm offered slow release tablets tomorrow do I take them or will I just get addicted to them?

And if I just go cold turkey how long does it last? Dh is going to Spain on Saturday and not sure I can cope.

I think you need to come off it gradually, or you'll feel really terrible. When you talk to the gp ask her what the options are and rough timetables. She ought to be able to give you an idea, x long if you really tough it out, y if you are kinder to yourself, etc.

Thanks. Will see what gp suggests.

I'm pissed off, my back still hurts and now I've got an opiate addiction on top of it.
