Pain after breast reconstruction

I had a mastectomy followed by a reconstruction nearly 7 years ago, and it all went well.
But in the last few months I've had a throbbing pain round the reconstructed breast, which isn't going away.
It's a saline implant and I can't think what it can be.
I've been to my doctor who is referring me to the breast clinic, but was wondering if anyone has had problems so many years down the line.

Not sure if I can help, but have recently had 2 mastectomies, with immediate saline implant reconstruction. One last year for BC, now this year the other as a preventative measure. My Surgeon told me to look out for new pain, as it could mean the implant has ruptured, so any pain/ distortion of the breast might be a sign. I don't think it's thought to be serious, just annoying.

Thanks smee, I got a hospital appointment yesterday for a bone scan which is vaguely worrying, as I think the implant may be ruptured too.
I expect I'll find out next week.

I'd be freaked too, but I'd bet that's the cause. My Surgeon told me you can't see them as permanent as they need changing from time to time.

Are Bone Scan and appointment both next week? Hope so, as that's not too long to wait.

Yes, next Thursday.
I think they'e just being cautious, my Surgeon is and was lovely and he ordered the scan.
I refuse to worry yet.

Horrible waiting though. Keep nattering if it helps. Am sure you'll be fine though. Smile
