Tooth extraction after pain?????

I had to have lower left side molar removed last Tuesday.
There was an infection and it would not clear up even after different antibiotics.

They offered to try a root canal but I opted for the extraction instead.

It took 50 mins to remove the tooth. In the end they had to take the tooth then go back in for the roots. The roots were curved at the bottom so they pointed at each other like in a U shape.

Anyway they said I would be in some pain as it was a difficult extraction. Fast forward to the friday where I was in agony. Went back down and they said it was healing nicely but they gave me antibiotics as slight infection still there.

Today- not having pain all the time. Can eat as long as it is still fairly soft. Tried a roast yesterday and some potato got stuck and that was painful but OK after I got it out.

Still get aching pain, which seems to go all around the left side of my mouth/jaw and including the top.
Pain still feels bad at night when I lie down????
And in the morning it aches/throbs quite a bit.

I am still taking some painkillers but not as many as I was.

Antibiotics finish weds and I have to go back friday morning for a check-up.

So, Is still having some pain normal after difficult extraction plus infection?
How long will it last for?
And why does it feel worse at night/first thing in morning?

Thanks

I had a wisdom tooth out last Tuesday. It was horrendous and took 30 minutes to get the tooth out. I still have an aching jaw and ear pains- only stopped pain killers 2 days ago. It is also worse at night. Saw the dentist today (for a root canal!). Apparently it is normal to have pains still as in my case it was right on the nerve.
