Effect of antibiotics on 3 month old baby - help needed!

Hi there,

My 3 month old DS2 has just finished a week long course of antibiotics for an infected BCG wound. Since then he's had really bad wind (farts) and smelly watery green poos, is this a normal reaction to the effect of the antibiotics? I'm ebf and am really hoping this will help him recover and establish all the good bacteria again (read that breastmilk contains probiotics - hope I'm right!). Just wondering if anyone else has had similar experience and if so how long it took to get back to normal!

It could be and yes, keep breastfeeding as it's the best thing to help him recover.
OTOH you should ask the doctor to test his stools for an infection as this can sometimes result from antibiotic use.

May I ask what the antibiotic was?

I think it was co-amoxiclav and something else? Can't remember now as thrown the box away annoyingly! He seems fine in himself, happy and smiley and sleeping ok so am hoping it's nothing more than the effect of the antibiotics.

Ok. Not one of the worst offenders so that's good, but do speak to your doctor if this doesn't resolve by itself within a few more days.

good luck Smile Watch out for sore bottom as well, might be wise to leave him nappy free as much as possible and of course remove any poo straight away. Hard work!!

Will do. Thanks for your advice x
