Ok I didn't know where to post this. And as I'm preg thought I might aswell post it here, ok strange question. How do I cut my 2nhalf year olds toe nails?? The problem is he HATES his feet being touched. He will nt let anyone near them. Seriously. N when I try to cut his nails, I get a major crying match off him. He kicks and punches pulls hair does every thing he can to not let me get his feet. So I did them when he was asleep...but now he even wakes up from tht now. I dnt no what to do I have tried everything. From bribery to force. I'm going out of my mind cz their sooo long n it makes me look bad :( I dnt wna risk him kicking me when I'm pregnant.but I have to do something. Its making me get really upset. I am very gentle when I do his nails so I dnt understand.

When he's asleep.

I use tv Blush

Keeps DS quiet so I can do finger and toe nails.

meglet · 10/11/2011 21:44

What about chocolate buttons (desperate times call for desperate measures), in front of his favourite tv programme and with some kind of wrestling hold leg lock?

I'm not that gentle with nail trimming TBH. I tend to hold on and not let go but I know that's hard when your pregnant and don't want the bump knocked.

I have tried everything said. His favouritist sweets dnt work, nor does tv (he's not a tv person) tried when he's asleep, wakes up. Iv tried gting his leg in a lock so he can't move it but he just wiggles his feet n scrunches his toes bk n forth so cnt get to them. I rly feel as tho I have tried everything. I dnt no why he's like this.

We had this problem. In the end I got two pairs of nail clippers. Dd choose which ones she wanted to play with and we both took our socks off. I kept it all low key, and relaxed and asked her if we should cut my nail. She'd choose which toe/finger and then I'd trim a little bit off or let her pretend with her clippers. After a while I'd ask if she'd like any of her nails doing and let her pretend to do her own. I asked if she'd like mummy to help and she agreed and we cut a nail. As soon as she's had enough we stop and finish another day. She likes to look at the nail clippings each time we clip a bit. I found the solution was to give her control, be really enthusiastic about the clippings and not push her.

Would he be more willing if you let him cut yours after you had done his?

This is not as scary as it sounds, its what I have done with my reluctant DS for a while, and tbh he likes the idea and has a go but the action is quite hard for them to master and he soon gets bored and gives up!

Obviously he has to let you do his first! Worth a try!

Have you accidnetly cut him before? That's the only thing I can think of. What's he like having his feet touched generally eg socks on. How about you let him clip yours?

mumt1 · 10/11/2011 21:55

I'm gonna try to let him clip mine but I'm pretty sure I've tried that one and as soon as it turn to cut his toenail, he kicks off again. I have never cut him. Never hurt him in anyway with his toes. Well he loves socks on, coz tht means I can't get to his toes. He will always insist on wearing socks. He hates his feet being touched with no socks on. Even in the bath for a wash. Hates it. Will quickly move them if he feels me touch them.

As another alternative, maybe speak to your GP about being referred to a chiropidist?

Not sure if they would do it but worth asking maybe, if its causing so much distress to you both?

Have you tried nail scissors instead of clippers as sometimes the 'clip' action takes them by surprise as well as the projectile nail!

My DS is only allowed to cut mine when ALL of his nails have been done. Sometimes I think he only kicked up a fuss cause he liked the attention he got from my begging and pleading with him, I ended up just leaving the clippers on the side and told him if he wanted to clip mine, I had to do his first.

He brought the clippers to me. Grin

Mine likes having her nails filed with a board, a bit longer but I know I am not going to hurt her as she flings her limbs about and she generally sits still for it too!

Congrats on the impending arrival
Can you get someone else to do the clipping?
I'll move this out of pregnancy for now
Thanks
