Mid cycle episiotomy pain

Hiya,

I'm six months post birth and still having pain issues with my epi. It's fine until I ovulate or have my period and then it's really sore and often feels like I'm sitting on thorns. Haven't attempted sex during these times but otherwise can manage it. I can't really find any reference to this cycle influcened pain on the www so thought I'd ask here if anyone has experienced this/if there's anyway to sort it?

Am hesitant to seek out any medical procedure as its not constant, but then again being very sore for half the month is no picnic either.

Help? Confused

I'm guessing it's to do with fluid retention perhaps, creating a heavier pressure on the scar.

Scar tissue itself can be painful but the sharp thorn-like soreness perhaps suggests that the stitches were too tight.

I have to say, epi scars can ache when you're tired for years later. Mine is almost 7 yrs old and still aches (not painful) when I'm tired.

Have you seen the scar in the mirror? You might be able to see by how it looks as to whether it's too tight or not stitched well.

No end of women seek help from their GP who referes them for epi scars. It's quite a simple procedure I think to have them re-jigged a bit.

Thanks for your reply.

Thinking about it, the fluid retention makes sense.

The wound split back open on the second week so it healed without stitches. The scar is raised and bumpy. Guess I should look at it thought my cycle and see if it's more pronounced during ovulation/menstruation.

Was just hoping there was an easy fix I suppose.

Sigh.
