Hypothyroidism - Hashimoto's?

Help please!

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 6 months after DC1 was born. I had the usual symptoms of hair loss, dry skin, exhaustion, feeling down, etc etc and started 50mcg thyroxine daily. My TSH level was high.

DC2 was born this January. I have been exclusively bf and periods started when he was 6 months old. I feel like I have nit 'bounced back' physically. I am exhausted that sleep does not fix. My hair is disgusting, I have very dry skin, nasty spots coming with more frequency, constantly cold. Yesterday I wore 4 layers of clothes and still cold. My feet, hands and bottom (!) in particular are the coldest. I sometimes feel my brain is detached from my body. Sometimes my heart races for no reason. I feel down, then irritated, then ok and 'normal'.

In the summer I had a lot of problems with profuse sweating. It's like my thermostat has gone.

I have loads of other 'little' symptoms too. I feel convinced my thyroid is misbehaving but is this possible whilst on thyroxine?

In amongst all of this I have managed to lose all of my baby weight if not more. I am way slimmer than I was before I conceived DC1 although I have days when I feel bloated.

Is it possible I have more problems with my thyroid / could it be Hashimoto's? I am getting bloods done tomorrow so I know to ask for TSH, T3 and T4, but do I need to get anything else checked? I have a Dr's appt on Friday morning but I'm frightened I will be fobbed off with depression or something. I know there's something physical going on too.

Thanks for any replies!!

Another thing is there is family history of thyroid problems. My maternal aunt has Hashimoto's.

Sorry I meant to add my periods are dreadful (so heavy i nearly used a maternity pad last time) and getting worse every time and also they are becoming erratic where previously they would be very regular.

My scalp is itching and peeling and the insides of my ears too. Am I going mad?! Wink

All of those symptoms could be caused by hypothyroidism. It sounds like you need a bit more thyroxine, but the blood test will answer that quickly. I think the bloods you've mentioned are the right first step and they can do more tests if those don't show a cause. Good luck

How did it go?
